One person was killed and six others wounded when a mass shooting broke out during a homecoming event at Pennsylvania\u2019s Lincoln University on Saturday night, creating a chaotic scene at one of the oldest HBCUs in the country.<\/p>\n
Gunfire erupted at around 9:30 p.m. during a \u201ctailgate celebration\u201d near the football stadium at the historic Chester County campus, about 50 miles west of Philadelphia, according to officials.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is a devastating night in southern Chester County at Lincoln University,\u201d District Attorney Christopher de Barrena-Sarobe told\u00a0reporters Sunday morning.<\/a> \u201cIt was a chaotic scene and people fled in every direction.\u201d<\/p>\n Students stand at the entrance to Lincoln University after a shooting on Oct. 25, 2025. No charges have been announced as of early Sunday.<\/p>\n The mortally wounded victim was not identified by officials.<\/p>\n Six people struck by gunfire were transported to local hospitals. Officials did not provide their status or the extent of their injuries.<\/p>\n de Barrena-Sarobe said that several other attendees were injured as they fled from the gunfire, but did not specify a number.<\/p>\n de Barrena-Sarobe would not confirm if multiple shooters were responsible for the deadly gunfire, but said it did not appear to be a planned attack.<\/p>\n \u201cWe\u2019re operating as if this is not an incident where someone came in with the design to inflict mass damage on a college campus,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n First responders provide medical care to a person on a stretcher after the shooting. Lincoln University of PA<\/p>\n Officials were still trying to piece together the events that led to the shooting, revealing there was \u201cviable evidence\u201d of multiple gunmen in the parking lot area between the football stadium and the International Cultural Center (ICC), where the campus police department is located.<\/p>\n The district attorney urged community members to turn any information, including photos and videos, over to officials to help with the investigation.<\/p>\n Founded as The Ashmun Institute, Lincoln University was granted its charter from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania on April 29, 1854, becoming the nation\u2019s first degree-granting HBCU.<\/p>\n Notable alumni include Supreme Court Justice Thurgood Marshall, National Baseball Hall of Famer Monte Irvin, former Namibia Prime Minister Saara Kuugongelwa and former NYC deputy mayor for public safety Philip Banks III.<\/p>\n Firetrucks line the streets leading to Lincoln University in Pennsylvania. NBC10 Philadelphia\/YouTube<\/p>\n Lincoln University Chief of Police Marc Partee said the function where alumni gathered to \u201cbe merry\u201d was marred by the deadly shooting.<\/p>\n \u201cThis was to be a joyous occasion, homecoming, when individuals come back and they give back to their alma mater, and they live the good memories of their times at Lincoln University which has propelled them into life,\u201d Partee said at a press conference.<\/p>\n \u201cThis was interrupted by gunfire that should not have occurred,\u201d Partee said. \u201cWe are concerned for our students who had to experience this, our alumni who had to experience this and our visitors and friends.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019ve been briefed on the shooting at Lincoln University tonight, and my Administration has offered our full support to President [Brenda] Allen and local law enforcement,\u201d Pennsylvania Gov.
