BOROUGH PARK —AS PASSOVER APPROACHES, THE MET COUNCIL IS SURGING OVER $6 MILLION WORTH OF FOOD to pantries to ensure consistent access to essential kosher-for-Passover items in time for the eight-day festival, which begins at sundown next Wednesday, April 1.

Included in the distributions are 2.3 million eggs (including those from dairy farmers and the Gibber family), 61,000 pounds of matzah bread and over 51,000 gallons of grape juice, along with chicken, fish, oil, fresh produce and other key holiday staples that enable families to fully observe the holiday.

This year’s initiative reflects a significant expansion in both scale and impact. More than 800 volunteers – including government officials and community partners – are powering the distribution of over 3.5 million pounds of food across New York City and Long Island through 250 distribution points, in partnership with 230 community organizations and local food pantries.

“Passover is the most expensive time of year for Jewish New Yorkers, and we are making sure that everyone who needs help gets it. No one should have to choose between paying rent and putting food on the table, especially during the holidays,” said Met Council CEO David G. Greenfield.
