Mayor Zohran Mamdani and the Department of Consumer and Worker Protection Commissioner Sam Levine announced a settlement reached with Dunkin\u2019 Donuts and Taco Bell franchisees.<\/p>\n
The settlement resulted in a $1.8 million award that more than 830 workers can expect to see through direct deposit or check, according to officials.<\/p>\n
Levine joined NY1 political anchor Errol Louis on \u201cInside City Hall\u201d Tuesday to break down the settlement and what it means.<\/p>\n
\u201cThese laws are nearly a decade old. But these laws only succeed if you have an agency willing to enforce them, and we can only enforce them if we hear from workers directly,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cI really do hope this sends a message to businesses across the city that compliance with the Fair Work Week Law is not optional. I recognize that for many small businesses, especially, they might have questions about how these laws operate. We\u2019re here to support them, we are happy to answer questions people may have, ” he said. <\/p>\n
“But at the end of the day, the city passed a law that workers are entitled to predictable schedules. And if they don\u2019t have those schedules, we are willing, as we did today, to take companies to court to make sure workers get the rights they\u2019re entitled to,” Levne continued.<\/p>\n
