NEWARK, NJ \u2014 A large cloud of smoke was seen billowing from a fire in the Newark Airport area on Thursday.<\/p>\n

The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey issued an alert about an off-site fire near Port Street in Newark at 2:46 p.m.<\/p>\n

\u201cPlease exercise caution when travelling in and out of the port and surrounding roadways,\u201d authorities said.<\/p>\n

“Outer Port Street is closed in both directions due to [fire department] activity,” Port Authority officials announced in an update shortly afterwards.<\/p>\n

All traffic is being rerouted through Doremus Avenue, authorities said.<\/p>\n

Footage of the smoke has been circulating online<\/a>, with several people sharing video clips<\/a> and photos<\/a> from nearby Newark Airport.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnyone know what\u2019s happening?\u201d an X user commented<\/a>, adding that the smoke doesn\u2019t seem to be coming from the airport itself \u2013 but somewhere nearby.<\/p>\n
