The\u00a0suspect then brandished a firearm and ordered the victim out of the vehicle.\u00a0<\/p>\nThe victim had picked up the unknown male\u00a0from\u00a0the Waterbury train station after the suspect requested a ride. The victim had exited off Route 8 and stopped at a gas station in Seymour to try to get fuel, police said. The department said that the man was not able to secure funds for gas, and continued driving to the area of South Main and Pearl streets.\u00a0<\/p>\n
There, \u201cthe passenger brandished a firearm and ordered the victim out of the vehicle,\u201d police said. \u201cThe suspect then took possession of the victim\u2019s vehicle and fled southbound on South Main Street.\u201d<\/p>\n
A passerby later saw the older man walking along the road, learned about the incident and contacted police, the department said. Patrol units then shared information of the incident to surrounding towns and other areas while detectives coordinated with multiple law enforcement agencies across the state.\u00a0<\/p>\n
License plate reader data indicated the vehicle was traveling south along the Merritt Parkway corridor and, several hours later, law enforcement agencies in Westchester County, N.Y., located the vehicle on FDR Drive, police said. Authorities identified the suspect, and the New York Police Department took him into custody, according to police.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The Seymour Police Department said detectives obtained an arrest warrant for extradition through Milford Superior Court. The department said that the name of the suspect would be released when he is extradited and arrested by Seymour police.\u00a0<\/p>\n
