SDNY<\/p>\n

COURTHOUSE,
\n March 26 \u2013 A defendant charged
\n with two armed robberies in
\n The Bronx was presented before
\n U.S. District Court for the
\n Southern District of New York
\n Magistrate Judge Katharine H.
\n Parker on December 17. Inner
\n City Press was there, the only
\n media in the SDNY Mag
\n court.\u00a0\u00a0 <\/p>\n

While his
\n co-defendant had been detained
\n on consent, this defendant has
\n voluntarily come and
\n surrendered at 500 Pearl
\n Street. He has family members
\n including his mother in the
\n gallery. What the prosecutor
\n called a knife in his hand
\n during the robbery, defense
\n counsel said may have been
\n simply “dark metal.”
\n Accordingly, he was released
\n on $50,000 bond. <\/p>\n

But in April 2025
\n he was ordered detained, and
\n he pled guilty in September,
\n set to be sentenced on
\n December 23.<\/p>\n

On December 3
\n Almanzar was indicted, his
\n case assigned to Chief Judge
\n Laura Taylor Swain. On
\n December 4 the US Attorney’s
\n Office wrote in to ask if the
\n two cases should be handled by
\n the same judge.<\/p>\n

On December 17
\n the US Attorney’s Office wrote
\n in to Judge Buchwald asking
\n for 37 months on McDuffie on
\n December 23.<\/p>\n

Inner City Press
\n went to the sentencing, and
\n live tweeted, here<\/a><\/p>\n

Defendant: After
\n the car accident I got
\n addicted to opioids, needed
\n money to buy them. <\/p>\n

Judge: Where’d
\n you get the money? <\/p>\n

Defendant:
\n Lawsuit after the accident.
\n $15,000 <\/p>\n

\u00a0AUSA: The
\n employees were afraid. Also
\n video shown at bail appeal. <\/p>\n

Judge: There’s
\n the number of electronic
\n devices stolen… I sentence
\n you to 15 months, then 3 years
\n of supervision<\/p>\n

On March 26, 2026
\n Almanzer was sentenced to 78
\n months.<\/p>\n

\u00a0 This case
\n is USA v. Almanzar,
\n 1:25-cr-665 (Swain)<\/p>\n

the
\n co-defendant’s is US v.
\n McDuffie, 25-cr-408 (Buchwald)<\/p>\n
