Authorities have found a body during the search for a missing American Airlines flight attendant who disappeared<\/a> during a routine layover in Colombia.<\/p>\n

Medell\u00edn Mayor Federico Guti\u00e9rrez said that the grisly discovery was made in a rural area south of the Colombian capital, days after Eric Fernando Gutierrez Molina was reported missing.<\/p>\n

\u201cI have to deliver some sad news. Since last Sunday, we have been searching for Eric Guti\u00e9rrez, a US citizen who is missing. Unfortunately, a lifeless body has just been found between the municipality of Jeric\u00f3 and Puente Iglesias. There is a very high probability that it is this person,\u201d Medell\u00edn Mayor Federico Guti\u00e9rrez wrote on X.<\/a><\/p>\n

The body, believed to be Molina\u2019s, was transported to Medell\u00edn for identification and autopsy.<\/p>\n

Guti\u00e9rrez said he delivered the \u201cpainful news\u201d to Molina\u2019s father, who had traveled to Colombia after his son was reported missing.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe express our solidarity to his family and friends,\u201d the mayor wrote.<\/p>\n

Molina, 32, was a flight crew member based out of Dallas-Fort Worth and had arrived in Medell\u00edn from a flight that had departed Miami on March 21.<\/p>\n

He was scheduled to work a return flight the next morning after a brief overnight stay, but never made it back to the Medell\u00edn airport.<\/p>\n

Molina was last seen in Medell\u00edn\u2019s La Am\u00e9rica neighborhood, an area not known for tourist activities, according to officials.<\/p>\n

Molina\u2019s close friend told\u00a0Telemedell\u00edn<\/a>\u00a0that the flight attendant had allegedly been invited to go out and party \u2014 and was later found disoriented and taken to a medical center.<\/p>\n

Molina was last heard from when he sent a message Sunday morning sharing his location at an Airbnb in the El Poblado neighborhood, about 12 miles from\u00a0Medell\u00edn\u2019s Jos\u00e9 Mar\u00eda C\u00f3rdova International Airport.<\/p>\n

It wasn\u2019t known if Molina was a victim of violence, but Guti\u00e9rrez teased \u201cjustice be done\u201d for those responsible.<\/p>\n

No suspects have been arrested in the discovery of the body and no cause of death has been revealed.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe investigations carried out by the Police and the Prosecutor\u2019s Office are very advanced and they would have very clear leads on those responsible,\u201d he wrote.<\/p>\n

On Thursday, Molina\u2019s loved ones revealed they were losing hope<\/a> as the search for the missing American progressed.<\/p>\n

\u201cI want to believe that he\u2019s alive, and I want to continue believing that he\u2019s alive, but throughout each day you wake up not knowing anything and it makes the days go by longer and slower,\u201d Molina\u2019s partner Ernesto Carranza\u00a0told CBS News<\/a>\u00a0Thursday.<\/p>\n
