NEW YORK CITY (PIX11) \u2014 Thousands of demonstrators gathered at Central Park and made their way through New York City as part of the nationwide \u201cNo Kings\u201d movement<\/a> on Saturday.<\/p>\n

Hundreds of events were planned across the country in protest of the Trump Administration, particularly\u00a0ICE\u2019s deportation efforts<\/a>, the war in Iran, the rising cost of living and what organizers say are attacks on freedom of speech, civil rights and the freedom to vote.<\/p>\n

The biggest event planned for New York City kicked off at 2 p.m. at Seventh Avenue and Central Park South. It coincides with the flagship demonstration at the Minnesota State Capitol featuring Senator Bernie Sanders, Rep. Ilhan Omar, Jane Fonda, Bruce Springsteen and more.<\/p>\n

What are the No Kings protests in NYC?<\/p>\n

\u201cNo Kings\u201d\u00a0first began last June<\/a>, coinciding with President Donald Trump\u2019s birthday parade. Since then, the movement has grown to over 7 million participants in more than 2,700 events across the country.<\/p>\n

A core principle behind the demonstration is a commitment to nonviolent action that encourages protestors to de-escalate any potential confrontation and to act lawfully at each event.<\/p>\n

Organizers behind \u201cNo Kings\u201d expect this month\u2019s demonstration to be the largest since its inception. White House spokesperson Abigail Jackson dismissed the movement and described the protests as the product of \u201cleftist funding networks.\u201d<\/p>\n
