Football fever has hit New York<\/a> City\u00a0ahead of the World Cup<\/a>. The official jersey for the French national team was unveiled this week\u00a0at the\u00a0French Consulate. Fanny Pradier, the events director,\u00a0showcased\u00a0the home kit on Park Avenue. \u201cDetails matter a lot,\u201d she explained, showing off her red high heels.<\/p>\n

Former\u00a0French footballer Blaise Matuidi, who was part of France\u2019s 2018 World Cup-winning team, attended the event, along with striker Peguy Luyindula and defender S\u00e9bastien Squillaci.<\/p>\n

\u201cFootball \u2013\u00a0or soccer, as they say here \u2013\u00a0is growing so much in the US,\u201d Matuidi told France 24. \u201cYou can really feel the excitement. And with the World Cup coming, it\u2019s going to inspire a whole new generation of kids to play the game.\u201d \u201cWe have the best players and the best coach,\u201d Squillaci added.<\/p>\n

Philippe Diallo, president of the French Football Federation, and C\u00e9drik Fouriscot, Consul of France<\/a> in New York, unveiled the new kit. \u201cThis colour is inspired by the Statue of Liberty \u2013\u00a0a gift from France to the United States. We thought it was the perfect symbol,\u201d Diallo explained. French expats were thrilled.<\/p>\n

‘We\u2019re going to lift the trophy’ <\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s incredible \u2013\u00a0I\u2019m so excited,\u201d enthused one attendee. \u201cI can\u2019t wait for June and July. Vive la France!\u201d \u201cThis year, we\u2019re going to lift the trophy. We\u2019re going to win it\u00a0\u2013\u00a0 and I hope they win every match,\u201d exclaimed another.<\/p>\n

Fouriscot emphasised the broader significance of the tournament. \u201cThe World Cup is a huge celebration \u2013\u00a0truly a global celebration. We\u2019re here in the United States in a year marking 250 years of Franco-American friendship. For us, it\u2019s an extraordinary moment of celebration.\u201d<\/p>\n

Matuidi also reminisced about France\u2019s 2018 World Cup victory and shared advice for young footballers. \u201cWhat I want to say to young people is simple: believe in your dreams. I believed in mine, and I had the chance to experience something incredible \u2013\u00a0that feeling of becoming one with the entire French people. It was just magical, and I hope we\u2019ll get to relive that again this year.\u201d<\/p>\n
