NEW YORK \u2014 BROOKLYN STATE ASSEMBLYMEMBER Robert Carroll, D-44, is pressing for New York to submit a bid to co-host a future Winter Olympics, splitting events between New York City and Lake Placid, he told CBS New York<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Carroll\u2019s proposal would stage large indoor spectator sports \u2013 hockey, figure skating, speed skating \u2013 at arenas including Madison Square Garden and the Barclays Center, while directing alpine and sliding events to Lake Placid\u2019s recently modernized facilities. The concept mirrors the Milan-Cortina model used for the 2026 Games, with both host pairs separated by roughly 250 miles.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Carroll has called for an exploratory committee of 30 to 40 officials and civic leaders; the governor, New York City mayor and Lake Placid mayor would all need to support any formal submission to the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Committee.<\/p>\n

The earliest a New York Games could occur is approximately 2042, given the Olympics\u2019 existing schedule.<\/p>\n
