New Yorkers are struggling with rising energy bills. <\/p>\n

The skyrocketing energy bills are the result of our state\u2019s continued reliance on fossil fuels, and the corporate greed of utilities that are enjoying record profits. But New York State Governor Kathy Hochul has been trying to blame the state\u2019s Climate Act, originally known as the Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act (CLCPA), for these exorbitant costs \u2013 even though it has yet to even implement the law. <\/p>\n

In fact, WEACT is among the plaintiffs in the litigation against the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation for failing to issue the regulations required by law, under the Climate Act, which\u00a0the court decided in our favor<\/a>\u00a0(under appeal), to begin implementation.<\/p>\n

Not only would implementing the Climate Act save New Yorkers money, but it will also save lives. By the State\u2019s own estimates, air pollution results in approximately 1,500 premature deaths each year across the state. The Climate Act will significantly reduce those emissions. Here\u2019s what you can do to help defend the Climate Act:<\/p>\n

1) Ask Your State Legislators to Defend the Climate Act & Fund the Sustainable Future Program, & Launch a Cap & Invest Program<\/p>\n

The NY Renews coalition invites you to\u00a0email your state legislators<\/a>, urging them to defend, fund the\u00a0Sustainable Future Program<\/a>, and launch an equitable Cap & Invest program.\u00a0Take Action<\/a><\/p>\n

2) Tell the Public Service Commission to Deny the Fossil Fuel Industry\u2019s Petition<\/p>\n

A fossil fuel-backed group has asked a state agency \u2013 the New York Public Service Commission (PSC) \u2013 to hold a hearing that could\u00a0weaken New York\u2019s clean energy law. Tell the PSC to deny this petition. Click\u00a0here<\/a>\u00a0to tell the PSC to deny this attempt by the fossil fuel industry to weaken our climate law.\u00a0Take\u00a0Action<\/a><\/p>\n

3) Ask Your State Legislators to Defend the Climate Act & Fund the Sustainable Future Program<\/p>\n

The Renewable Heat Now coalition invites you to\u00a0email your state legislators<\/a>, urging them to defend the law and fund the\u00a0Sustainable Future Program<\/a>. There\u2019s no harm in asking twice!\u00a0Take Action<\/a><\/p>\n

4) Ask Your State Legislators to Defend the Climate Act Yet Again<\/p>\n

The New York League of Conservation Voters also invites you to\u00a0email your state legislators<\/a>, urging them to defend the law. Ask them again!\u00a0Take Action<\/a>.<\/p>\n
