{"id":180238,"date":"2026-03-30T23:04:09","date_gmt":"2026-03-30T23:04:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/180238\/"},"modified":"2026-03-30T23:04:09","modified_gmt":"2026-03-30T23:04:09","slug":"heartbroken-granddaughter-decries-immeasurable-loss-of-83-year-old-vet-fatally-shoved-onto-nyc-subway-tracks-by-migrant","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/180238\/","title":{"rendered":"Heartbroken granddaughter decries &#8216;immeasurable&#8217; loss of 83-year-old vet fatally shoved onto NYC subway tracks by migrant"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The heartbroken granddaughter of the <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/03\/26\/us-news\/veteran-83-randomly-shoved-onto-subway-tracks-dies-from-injuries\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">83-year-old Vietnam War veteran who was fatally shoved onto Manhattan subway tracks <\/a>by a migrant decried the \u201cimmeasurable\u201d loss on Monday \u2014 as prosecutors revealed chilling new details of the beloved victim\u2019s final moments.<\/p>\n<p>The family of US Air Force vet Richard Williams, a cancer survivor, remains devastated, said his granddaughter, Jackie Bilog, as his accused killer, <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/03\/12\/us-news\/migrant-who-shoved-2-onto-nyc-subway-tracks-was-deported-4-times-had-15-arrests-on-his-record-feds\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">34-year-old Honduran national Bairon Hernandez <\/a>appeared in Manhattan Supreme Court on a murder indictment.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe was a devoted husband, a loving father and grandfather and a kind generous man whose life was centered around those he loved,\u201d Bilog, 37, said outside the courtroom, fighting tears following Hernandez\u2019s arraignment.<\/p>\n<p>Bairon Hernandez pleaded not guilty as he was arraigned on murder charges Monday. Steven Hirsch for NY Post<\/p>\n<p>Richard Williams succumbed to his injuries after he was allegedly pushed onto the tracks with another man while waiting for a train at the Lexington Avenue-63rd Street Station just before noon on March 8. Obtained by NYPost<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe loss we feel is immeasurable and the circumstances surrounding his passing had\u00a0made his grief more difficult to bear,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>Prosecutors, during the hearing, described the maniac migrant\u2019s off the rails rampage at the Lexington Avenue-63rd Street Station on the Upper East Side on March 8 \u2014 and how he allegedly randomly pushed both the elderly victim and another straphanger, 30-year-old Jhon Pena.<\/p>\n<p>Williams was walking on the platform with a cane, waiting for a train at around noon, when Hernandez allegedly suddenly shoved him with full force, said Manhattan Assistant District Attorney Julie Noble.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe defendant pushed him with such force with both of his hands that (Williams) flew onto the tracks and landed directly on his face,\u201d Noble told the court.<\/p>\n<p>Subway shove suspect Bairon Hernandez seen on the platform in a red hood in a video filmed by one of the victims. Obtained by NYPost<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/03\/11\/us-news\/migrant-accused-of-shoving-83-year-old-another-man-onto-subway-tracks-calmly-walked-away-after-crime-video\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Cellphone footage of the attack<\/a>, apparently shot by Pena from the train tracks, showed the suspect casually strolling along the platform after pushing both victims.<\/p>\n<p>Williams suffered a brain bleed and never regained consciousness.<\/p>\n<p>He died on March 17, nine days after the attack, leading Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg\u2019s office to pursue the murder indictment against Hernandez.<\/p>\n<p>Pena suffered a shoulder injury after the attack, according to Bragg, who blasted the attacks as \u201cheinous\u201d following the arraignment.<\/p>\n<p>Jackie Bilog, the granddaughter of Richard Williams, said her family is devastated after his tragic passing. Obtained by NYPost<\/p>\n<p>Hernandez wore a beige jail outfit as he pleaded not guilty to murder and assault charges through an interpreter during the hearing.<\/p>\n<p>Prosecutors said he has two open warrants for drug-related cases in New Jersey.<\/p>\n<p>Hernandez also has a federal conviction for illegally entering the US, according to prosecutors.<\/p>\n<p>Judge Curtis Farber agreed with a request from prosecutors to revoke Hernandez\u2019s $100,000 bail <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/03\/26\/us-news\/veteran-83-randomly-shoved-onto-subway-tracks-dies-from-injuries\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">in light of the upgraded murder charges<\/a> that followed Williams\u2019 death.<\/p>\n<p>Bairon Hernandez faces 25 years-to-life in prison if convicted of second-degree murder. Steven Hirsch for NY Post<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe will be remanded on the prosecution\u2019s request on the new charge of murder in the second degree,\u201d Farber said.<\/p>\n<p>Bilog, who was joined in court by her significant other, said that she hopes her grandfather\u2019s death will bring \u201cawareness and meaningful action\u201d to help prevent other families from experiencing the same tragic loss.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe will be remembered for his warmth, his integrity and the deep love he gave so freely.
