{"id":180675,"date":"2026-03-31T10:13:43","date_gmt":"2026-03-31T10:13:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/180675\/"},"modified":"2026-03-31T10:13:43","modified_gmt":"2026-03-31T10:13:43","slug":"trump-puts-iran-its-new-speaker-on-notice-after-tehran-attack-on-israeli-oil-refinery","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/180675\/","title":{"rendered":"Trump puts Iran, its new speaker on notice after Tehran attack on Israeli oil refinery"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>WASHINGTON \u2014 President Trump on Monday\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/03\/30\/world-news\/trump-says-he-could-take-the-oil-in-iran-as-he-mulls-over-seizing-kharg-island\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">put Iran and the speaker<\/a>\u00a0of the Islamic Republic\u2019s parliament on notice after Tehran attacked\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/03\/18\/world-news\/oil-spikes-after-iran-says-worlds-largest-gas-fields-hit-in-strikes-vows-to-attack-gulf-oil-production-in-retaliation\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Israel\u2019s biggest oil refinery<\/a>\u00a0and told The Post his response is coming \u201cshortly.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/03\/27\/world-news\/idf-strikes-major-iranian-missile-and-naval-mine-production-site\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Iran escalated its attack on infrastructure<\/a>\u00a0by striking a water and electrical plant in Kuwait, and an oil refinery was set ablaze in the northern Israeli city of Haifa after the Iranian missile attack. Asked for his response on the strike, he told The Post: \u201cYou\u2019ll see shortly.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>As Trump brings more military might to the region that could inflict catastrophic damage on Iran, he encouraged what\u2019s left of Iran\u2019s regime to make a deal before it\u2019s too late\u00a0and said he would hit them where it really hurt: their energy infrastructure.<\/p>\n<p>Trump spoke exclusively with The Post and put Iran on notice. AP<\/p>\n<p>He exclusively told The Post that the US will find out whether the speaker is willing to work with Americans \u2013soon.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re gonna find out,\u201d Trump told The Post when asked about Iran\u2019s Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf. \u201cI\u2019ll let you know that in about a week.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ghalibaf issued his own warning in response, writing on social media that attacking Iran\u2019s infrastructure would be a \u201cbig mistake.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe enemy promotes its desires as news while threatening our nation at same time. Big Mistake. If they hit one,they\u2019ll take several back. God willing, the people of Iran,under the leadership of the Supreme Leader,will make the enemy regret the aggression and reclaim their rights,\u201d he wrote.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/03\/03\/us-news\/trump-says-he-would-like-somebody-from-within-to-take-over-iran-after-ayatollah-killed\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">The president described a dramatic shake-up inside Iran<\/a>, claiming the old guard has effectively been wiped out and replaced by a new group he said has so far been easier to work with.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere has been total regime change because the regimes of the past are gone and we\u2019re dealing with a whole new set of people,\u201d Trump said. \u201cAnd thus far, they\u2019ve been much more reasonable.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Pressed on whether these are new figures compared to past US adversaries in Tehran, Trump didn\u2019t mince words.<\/p>\n<p>A blaze after Israel\u2019s Fire and Rescue Service said that an industrial building and a fuel tanker at Israel\u2019s Oil Refineries were hit by debris from an intercepted Iranian missile. REUTERS<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPretty much,\u201d he said. \u201cThe other people are all dead.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Trump also pointed to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/03\/23\/us-news\/trump-says-we-dont-know-if-irans-new-supreme-leader-mojtaba-khamenei-is-alive-nobody-knows-what-happened-to-him\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">uncertainty surrounding the health of Iran\u2019s new Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei<\/a>\u00a0\u2014 the son of the now-dead Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/03\/27\/world-news\/iran-gives-flimsy-excuse-why-mojtaba-khamenei-hasnt-been-seen\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">The son has not been seen publicly<\/a>\u00a0since the US and Israel began their attacks on Feb. 28.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNobody\u2019s heard from him,\u201d Trump said of the leader, whom The Post previously reported that US intel officials believe to be gay. \u201cHe\u2019s very seriously injured.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Asked if Mojtaba Khamenei is still alive, Trump added, \u201cWe don\u2019t know. We think probably yes, but in extraordinarily bad shape.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Several major figures in Iran\u2019s leadership have died under the US-Israeli bombing campaign including the ayatollah, the defense minister, the country\u2019s top security official, and the commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. Several top military leaders and intelligence officials have also died.<\/p>\n<p>Trump\u2019s decision to give\u00a0Ghalibaf a week could be tied to his April 6th deadline for Iran to come to a peace deal with America. It\u2019s unclear how safe the Iranian speaker is or if he\u2019s on any type of kill list. The White House did not respond to an inquiry on the matter.<\/p>\n<p>Iranian leaders have not publicly confirmed that they are participating in talks with the US. Meanwhile, their blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, a vital waterway for cargo and oil shipments, has shaken stock markets around the world.<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0Post\u2019s interview with the president\u00a0came hours after Iran targeted an Israeli oil refinery \u2014 the latest strike on energy infrastructure in the monthlong war.<\/p>\n<p>Oil prices spiked in early trading on Monday, as Iran went on the attack and Trump threatened his response.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/03\/19\/business\/oil-jumps-above-119-a-barrel-after-iran-attacked-energy-facilities-across-middle-east\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Prices hit $115 per barrel<\/a>\u00a0and, in the US, the average price for a gallon of gas is now $3.99, according to AAA, which is the highest since 2022.<\/p>\n<p>The president started Monday on a tough note, warning Tehran the US would\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/03\/30\/world-news\/trump-says-he-could-take-the-oil-in-iran-as-he-mulls-over-seizing-kharg-island\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">obliterate the regime\u2019s power plants, oil wells<\/a>, and its main export hub, Kharg Island, if negotiations fell through.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGreat progress has been made but, if for any reason a deal is not shortly reached, which it probably will be, and if the Hormuz Strait is not immediately \u2018Open for Business,\u2019 we will conclude our lovely \u2018stay\u2019 in Iran by blowing up and completely obliterating all of their Electric Generating Plants, Oil Wells and Kharg Island,\u201d he wrote on Truth Social.<\/p>\n<p>The tough talk came as the war hit the 30-day mark. Trump originally set a four-to-six week deadline for the war to come to an end.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said that the time table still held.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe President, Commander in Chief, the Pentagon has always stated four to six weeks estimated timeline for Operation epic fury. We\u2019re on day 30 today. So again, you do the math on how much longer we the Pentagon needs to fully achieve the objectives,\u201d she said in response to a question from The Post.<\/p>\n<p>Trump pointed to uncertainty surrounding the health of Iran\u2019s new Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, saying if he\u2019s alive, he\u2019s likely in bad shape. via REUTERS<\/p>\n<p>Trump has a lot of options to win the war, some of which he has discussed publicly.<\/p>\n<p>He told the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ft.com\/content\/3bd9fb6c-2985-4d24-b86b-23b7884031f5\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Financial Times\u00a0<\/a>that the US had about 3,000 targets it would still like to hit in Iran \u2014 after having \u201cbombed 13,000 targets\u201d since Feb. 28.<\/p>\n<p>Another option he\u2019s weighing would be to send\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/03\/30\/world-news\/trump-considers-high-risk-raid-to-seize-iranian-uranium-buried-under-rubble\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">US soldiers inside Iran<\/a>\u00a0to extract nearly 1,000 pounds of uranium.<\/p>\n<p>He\u2019s open to the idea but also considering the risks to American soldiers,<a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/politics\/national-security\/trump-weighs-military-operation-to-extract-irans-uranium-37427c8b?st=6cLQJw&amp;reflink=desktopwebshare_permalink\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">\u00a0US officials familiar with the plan told the Wall Street Journal.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The majority of Iran\u2019s enriched uranium is believed to be held in Isfahan, located 270 miles south of Tehran. Little is known about it, but there are reports it could be about 330 feet below the mountain base.<\/p>\n<p>The mission would be dangerous.
