WASHINGTON \u2014 President Trump told The Post on Tuesday that he believes the Iran war is likely to end soon<\/a> and that other nations can reopen the Strait of Hormuz themselves \u2014 after he posted to social media a video of huge explosions near Isfahan that he said hit \u201ca lot of stuff.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re not going to be there too much longer. We\u2019re obliterating the s\u2013t out of them right now, it\u2019s a total obliteration,\u201d the president said in a phone interview.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut we won\u2019t have to be there much longer \u2014 but we have more work to do in terms of killing their offensive, whatever offensive capability they have left.\u201d<\/p>\n

Trump said that other countries can sort out the Strait of Hormuz<\/a>, which Iran has closed for 31 days, causing global energy prices to soar.<\/p>\n

\u201cWell, I think it\u2019ll automatically open, but my attitude is, I\u2019ve obliterated the country. They have no strength left, and let the countries that are using the strait, let them go and open it\u2026 because I would imagine whoever\u2019s controlling the oil will be very happy to open the strait, he said.<\/p>\n

Trump has railed against US allies for not volunteering for a multinational flotilla to force the crucial waterway open.<\/p>\n

Pressed on a Wall Street Journal report that said he was willing to end the war without reopening the strait, Trump said: \u201cI don\u2019t think about it, to be honest. My sole function was to make sure that they don\u2019t have a nuclear weapon. They\u2019re not going to have a nuclear weapon. When we leave the strait will automatically open.\u201d<\/p>\n

Trump declined to divulge what exactly the overnight airstrikes hit near Isfahan<\/a>, a major city outside of which Iran operated a nuclear facility, but said he was surprised at the size of the explosion, which he said showed a substantial on-the ground payload.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019d rather not say, but you\u2019ll learn soon enough. They were rather large, weren\u2019t they?\u201d Trump said.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019ll come out, but it was just another one of their wonderful areas that we took care of,\u201d he went on.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat was a beauty. That was a beauty. That was stuff that we blew up. That was some explosion,\u201d Trump marveled.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was actually bigger than we thought, meaning they had a lot of stuff. Well, we\u2019re taking away their nuclear capability, and we\u2019ve achieved regime change. You know, we\u2019re dealing right now with a totally different group of people, and they\u2019re much more reasonable than previous, much more reasonable.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd that is truly regime change.\u201d<\/p>\n

Trump declined to say if he was considering dispatching his negotiating team \u2014 including special envoy Steve Witkoff and Vice President JD Vance<\/a> \u2014 to Pakistan or another country.<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t want to say that,\u201d Trump said. \u201cI can\u2019t talk to you about this stuff, all of it. Okay? I just can\u2019t talk to you. It\u2019s so ridiculous, right? What do you want me to give, my strategy? Do you want me to give you my strategy?\u201d<\/p>\n
