\n\tAlmost five years ago, Gary Ross doled out $5.4 million for a red brick brownstone in Brooklyn<\/a>\u2019s historic Cobble Hill<\/a> neighborhood that was built in the late 1850s for merchant Samuel Richard St. John. The Hollywood writer, producer, and director\u2014best known for his work on the hit films Seabiscuit, Big, and The Hunger Games\u2014and his wife, Claudia Solti, subsequently undertook an extensive renovation, which included landscaping the private garden and adding a wellness and entertainment space.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cWe wanted a house built around how we actually live: dinner parties, films with friends, kids in the garden,\u201d said Ross. \u201cThere is a proper dining room connected to a full kitchen by a dumbwaiter, and beneath all of that, a real theater with 10-foot ceilings, next to a spa. We went a little nuts, but we\u2019re so happy with how it turned out. We feel like the place transports you.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tThree bedrooms on the first and third levels each have their own bathrooms and walk-in closets, while a primary suite occupying the entire fourth floor comes with two walk-in closets, a bath with dual vanities and a white veined-marble shower, and a separate fireside den. Finishing touches include a top level with a sky-lit living room, a brick-accented kitchen, and a study overlooking an enclosed terrace, plus a basement holding a gym, a sauna, and a soundproof movie theater with plush tiered seating.<\/p>\n
