The revival of August Wilson<\/a>‘s Joe Turner’s Come and Gone<\/a>, which recently extended its limited engagement through July 26 at the Barrymore Theatre, played its first preview March 30. Check out photos from the evening in the gallery below.<\/p>\n

Directed by Golden Globe and four-time Emmy winner Debbie Allen<\/a>, Joe Turner’s Come and Gone is playing the Barrymore, the same theatre where the play premiered in 1988. <\/p>\n

The production stars Taraji P. Henson<\/a> as Bertha Holly, Cedric the
\nEntertainer as Seth Holly, Joshua Boone<\/a> as Herald Loomis, and Ruben
\nSantiago-Hudson as Bynum Walker. They are joined onstage by Savannah
\n Commodore and Dominique Skye Turner<\/a>, who share the role of Zonia
\nLoomis; Bradley Stryker<\/a> as Rutherford Selig; Tripp Taylor<\/a> as Jeremy
\nFurlow; and Christopher Woodley<\/a> and Jackson Edward Davis<\/a>, who share
\n the role of Reuben Scott. Jasmine Batchelor<\/a>, Rosalyn Coleman<\/a>, Thomas
\nMichael Hammond, Cayden McCoy<\/a>, and Kevyn Morrow<\/a> serve as
\nunderstudies.<\/p>\n

Set in 1911, Joe Turner\u2019s Come and Gone takes place in a
\nPittsburgh boarding house run by the steady Seth and the open-hearted
\nBertha Holly\u2014a refuge for Black travelers navigating the upheaval of the
\n Great Migration. Among them is Herald Loomis, a man searching for his
\nlost wife\u2014and for the self he lost during seven years of illegal
\nenslavement under Joe Turner. The work is the second in Wilson’s
\nAmerican Century Cycle.<\/p>\n

Allen leads a robust creative team, including Oscar, Emmy, and
\nTony winning costume designer Paul Tazewell<\/a>, Tony winning scenic
\ndesigner David Gallo<\/a>, Drama Desk nominated lighting designer Stacey
\nDerosier, Tony nominated lighting designer Justin Ellington<\/a>, and Oscar,
\nBAFTA, and Emmy winning hairstylist Mia Neal<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The original production of Joe Turner’s Come and Gone
\npremiered on Broadway at the Ethel Barrymore Theatre in March 1988,
\nrunning for 105 performances. Under the direction of Lloyd Richards<\/a>, the
\n cast included Delroy Lindo<\/a> and future film star Angela Bassett<\/a>. The
\nproduction earned Tony nominations for Best Play, Best Director, Best
\nFeatured Actor, and took the Best Featured Actress Tony Award for L.
\nScott Caldwell.<\/p>\n

A revival came to Broadway in 2009 playing just 31 previews and 69
\nperformances at the Belasco Theatre. Despite the brief run, the play was
\n an awards season darling, with Roger Robinson<\/a> winning the Tony for Best
\n Featured Actor in a Play and Brian MacDevitt<\/a> winning the Tony for Best
\nLighting Design of a Play. The revival earned an additional four
\nnominations, for Best Revival of a Play, Best Direction, Best Scenic
