A 7-month-old child was shot dead in Brooklyn, possibly with a stray bullet, in a horrific crime reported on Wednesday afternoon.<\/p>\n

Sources close to the investigation said the incident happened just before 1:25 p.m. on April 1 near 108 Moore St., near Humboldt Street, in East Williamsburg. The shooting occurred within the confines of the 90th Precinct<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The female infant victim was being pushed in a stroller by their mother when shots rang out, the sources said. Upon hearing the shots, the mother and baby sought refuge at a nearby bodega.

Seconds later, the mother discovered that her child had been bleeding from the head from an apparent gunshot wound, the sources noted.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was in the hospital when the father brought the baby in,\u201d one woman told amNewYork. \u201cThe dad brought the baby in. The dad was screaming, \u2018Save my baby!\u2019 And the mother was screaming at the top of her lungs.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

The infant was rushed to nearby Woodhull Hospital; despite all efforts, she could not be saved, according to the sources.

The circumstances leading up to the shooting are unknown and under investigation, sources close to the case reported.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere was so many people trying to help. It was chaotic. It\u2019s like a movie happened so fast, you know, and it\u2019s just, it\u2019s crazy,\u201d said another eyewitness, Vincent Valcassel. \u201cWhen I heard that shot, I just ducked down, and I didn\u2019t want to look. I didn\u2019t want to look. I heard people screaming, \u2018baby, baby, baby, the baby. Shot the baby. Shot the baby.’\u201d<\/p>\n

A massive police investigation is now underway at the crime scene. Police are currently questioning a person of interest in connection with the incident.

Sources close to the probe said two suspects were seen fleeing the scene riding a moped traveling along Humboldt Street, confirming an ABC7 report<\/a>. One individual was spotted firing shots from the back of the moped as another person operated the vehicle. The moped was found ditched several blocks away.\u00a0<\/p>\n

So far, no arrests have been made in the ongoing probe. Sources familiar with the investigation told amNewYork that a second child was pushed to the ground during the chaos and suffered non-fatal injuries as a result.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy heart is heavy today after a baby\u2019s life was stolen by this senseless act of gun violence in Brooklyn. I\u2019m praying for this child\u2019s family and loved ones. May they rest in peace. We must keep working to end gun violence,\u201d New York Attorney General Letitia James wrote on X<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The 90th Precinct had reported just two shootings year-to-date through March 29<\/a>. There had been no homicides up to that point this year.<\/p>\n
