ELMONT, NY \u2014 Five adults and two children were displaced by a fire Monday that broke out outside a two-story home and spread to the home\u2019s interior, fire officials said. <\/p>\n
The Nassau County Fire Marshal said the fire at an East Street residence was called in at 3:05 p.m. Monday, with the Elmont Fire Department responding first and receiving mutual aid from Franklin Square and Valley Stream departments, for a total of 40 firefighters on the scene. <\/p>\n
Fire officials said the first responders saw an exterior fire at the residence that had extended to the house, which was brought under control within 20 minutes. Fire officials said the Red Cross was contacted to assist the displaced adults and children, but that the local building department had not been notified as of Monday afternoon.
