Today, April 1, 2026, New York State announced an initiative to help Farmers across the Empire State to combat the impacts of climate change.<\/p>\n

The announcement <\/a>from New York State\u00a0Governor Kathy Hochul outlined the details that over $25 million is being awarded to 133 farms throughout 23 counties through the Climate Resilient Farming Grant Program.<\/p>\n

According to the announcement, these projects are designed to assist farmers in New York State in reducing greenhouse gas emissions, protecting water quality, protecting and enhancing soil health, plus increasing on-farm resiliency to the effects of a changing climate.<\/p>\n

Governor Hochul proposed additional support for the Climate Resilient Farming program in the 2026 proposed Executive Budget, as part of the Environmental Protection Fund.<\/p>\n

So far, $94 million has been awarded to 700 farms with an estimated 642,000 metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent per year of emissions reduced. It was announced that almost half of the funding has been invested in methane reduction practice systems, representing around 94% of the reduction.<\/p>\n

New York State has long been a leader in combating climate change, and a big part of that includes supporting our farmers. Ensuring New York\u2019s agricultural industry has resources to mitigate the effects of climate change is critical to not only protecting our environment but also maintaining the economic viability of the state’s agricultural industry for generations to come. I congratulate all the awardees of this terrific program and look forward to seeing the progress made in creating a cleaner, greener, more resilient New York. – New York State Governor kathy Hochul<\/p>\n

Round 9 awards are heading to eight regions in New York State, including Central New York, the Southern Tier, and the Finger Lakes region.<\/p>\n

In the Southern Tier,\u00a0$3,730,736 has been awarded to work with 33 farms, in Central New York,\u00a0$6,012,742 awarded to work with 11 farms, and\u00a0$11,312,579 awarded to work with 57 farms in the Finger Lakes region.<\/p>\n

\u00a0New York’s\u00a0Climate Resilient Farming grants are an important part of our environmental protection and climate change response efforts. These awards will equip over 130 farms with the resources needed to help lower greenhouse gas emissions, improve water quality, and boost resilience to the effects of climate change. New York continues to be a national leader in soil health practices and methane reduction, maintaining our commitment to these efforts despite significant federal cuts to these very initiatives. – New York State\u00a0Assemblymember Donna Lupardo<\/p>\n
