Photos by Brandt Johnson.<\/p>\n<p>By Gus Saltonstall<\/p>\n<p>A fishy situation unfolded outside of an Upper West Side train station on Monday.<\/p>\n<p>Five salmon filets were found strewn on the ground in Verdi Square next to the West 72nd Street 1, 2, and 3 train station.<\/p>\n<p>Nearby, there were Fairway salmon packages and a white Fairway bag also on the ground, according to Ellen Jovin, who was enjoying the sunshine when she spotted the fish.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.westsiderag.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/Ellen-Jovin-salmon-3-scaled-e1774968069634.jpeg\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-100829\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/Ellen-Jovin-salmon-3-scaled-e1774968069634-1024x512.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1024\" height=\"512\"  \/><\/a>Photo courtesy of Ellen Jovin.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA woman sitting near us picked up one package and showed it to us,\u201d Jovin wrote in an email to West Side Rag. \u201cAccording to the package, its salmon piece had been 1.01 lbs and was kosher.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The discovery leaves a variety of questions.<\/p>\n<p>Could it have been a migration gone wrong? Or a wealthy Upper West Sider\u2019s attempt to give the local birds or stray cats a rare delicacy? Possibly a very naturalistic attempt at sun-drying the salmon?<\/p>\n<p>On Tuesday morning, Jovin confirmed that one piece of salmon remained in Verdi Square.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.westsiderag.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/image0-31-scaled.jpeg\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-100830\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/image0-31-1024x768.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\"  \/><\/a>The remaining filet on Tuesday.
