BROOKINGS \u2014 Brooklyn Meyer did not win the Summit League player of the year award.<\/p>\n

Guess she’ll have to settle for another conference tournament championship, NCAA tournament berth, invitation to the Women’s College All-Star Game and the Becky Hammon Award, given annually to the national mid-major player of the year.<\/p>\n

Meyer finished 9th in the NCAA and first in the Summit League with 22.6 points per game while ranking third in the nation in field goal percentage (.646). She also averaged 8.0 rebounds, 2.6 assists and 1.9 blocks per game, all of which led the team.<\/p>\n

Meyer finished her career with 2,097 career points, third on SDSU’s all-time list, while her 767 points this year marked a single-season school record. She also ranks second in school history in blocks and third in rebounds.<\/p>\n

She led the Jacks to the NCAA tournament in all four of her seasons and was named Summit League tournament MVP. In the first round of the NCAA tournament she scored 29 points in a loss to Washington.<\/p>\n

Meyer is the second Summit League player to win the Becky Hammon Award, joining South Dakota’s Ciara Duffy (2019-20).<\/p>\n

To be eligible for this award, players must compete in one of the 26 conferences deemed to be “mid-major.” The following conferences are considered high-major for the purposes of this award and thus ineligible: ACC, Big 12, Big East, Big Ten, and SEC. Additionally, players from Oregon State and Washington State remained ineligible this year.<\/p>\n

On Saturday, Meyer will play in the Women’s College All-Star Game in Phoenix.<\/p>\n

Meyer is one of just 20 players nationally who will play in the game, selected by a panel of experts. She’ll be teammates in the game with former Sioux Falls Washington standout Ndjakalenga Mwenentanda, who played for Vanderbilt this year after starting her career at Texas.<\/p>\n

The game will feature Team Lieberman and Team Miller, coached by Hall of Famers Nancy Lieberman and Cheryl Miller.<\/p>\n
