Minnesota is mired in its longest losing streak of the season after falling 4-3 in overtime Wednesday against New York. Prior to this recent stretch of games, the Frost had lost back-to-back games only once this season. Now with three consecutive losses, the Frost are looking for answers as postseason play looms.<\/p>\n
Taylor Heise didn’t take long to put the Frost on the scoreboard as she buried a goal just 16 seconds into the first period. It was her ninth of the season and was assisted by Britta Curl-Salemme and Lee Stecklein. New York evened the score at 1-1 five minutes later when Maddi Wheeler scored her third goal of the season. Wheeler’s goal was assisted by Clair DeGeorge and Elle Hartje.<\/p>\n
Despite two essentially back-to-back penalties by Heise, Minnesota was able to keep New York from taking the lead. Heise was called for slashing just short of 11 minutes into the first period and just 20 seconds after returning to play was called for tripping to make her way right back to the penalty box.<\/p>\n
Minnesota reclaimed the lead four minutes into the second period when Grace Zumwinkle scored on the power play. Curl-Salemme recorded her second assist of the night and Abby Hustler was also in on the play. Zumwinkle increased Minnesota’s lead to 3-1 just 44 seconds into the third period. Sidney Morin and Kelly Pannek assisted on the goal.<\/p>\n
The Sirens trimmed the Frost lead down to one after Sarah Fillier scored 12 minutes into the third period. Fillier wasn’t done, however, as she scored again 14 seconds later to tie the game at 3-3. The score would remain tied until 15 seconds left in overtime when Fillier scored her third of the game \u2014 this one the decisive game-winner.<\/p>\n
