{"id":183045,"date":"2026-04-02T02:39:36","date_gmt":"2026-04-02T02:39:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/183045\/"},"modified":"2026-04-02T02:39:36","modified_gmt":"2026-04-02T02:39:36","slug":"queens-residents-file-long-shot-lawsuit-to-stop-billionaire-steve-cohens-casino","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/183045\/","title":{"rendered":"Queens Residents File Long-Shot Lawsuit to Stop Billionaire Steve Cohen&#8217;s Casino"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Queens residents opposed to billionaire Steve Cohen&#8217;s planned casino next to Citi Field have filed a <a href=\"https:\/\/iapps.courts.state.ny.us\/nyscef\/ViewDocument?docIndex=2ks3KosiMKVTB9KpW79IzA==&amp;ref=hellgatenyc.com\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">lawsuit<\/a> seeking to revoke the project&#8217;s gaming license.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The casino foes charge that public hearings held before <a href=\"https:\/\/hellgatenyc.com\/three-nyc-casinos-get-final-approval\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">approval of the $8 billion Metropolitan Park project<\/a> violated the state&#8217;s open meetings law. And they say the New York State Gaming Commission failed to consider the moral character of Mets owner Cohen and his fellow applicants, which they&#8217;re required to do before awarding a gaming license.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We urge the court to do the job the Gaming Commission has failed [to do].
