{"id":183060,"date":"2026-04-02T02:53:09","date_gmt":"2026-04-02T02:53:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/183060\/"},"modified":"2026-04-02T02:53:09","modified_gmt":"2026-04-02T02:53:09","slug":"serial-nyc-bank-bandit-busted-in-nj-after-5-day-spree-that-saw-him-pocket-600","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/183060\/","title":{"rendered":"Serial NYC bank bandit busted in NJ after 5-day spree that saw him pocket $600"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A serial bank thief with a history of heists was nabbed Wednesday after a 5-day spree across the Big Apple \u2014 that scored him a whopping $600.<\/p>\n<p>Gusatvo DeJesus-Torres, 33, was arrested in Newark, New Jersey, for a string of bank robberies in New York City last month, the US Marshals Service said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Between March 13 and 17, he tried to rob six Chase bank locations \u2014 in Downtown Brooklyn and Flatbush; Harlem; the Melrose section in the Bronx; and the Queens neighborhoods of Long Island City and Jackson Heights,<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/us-news\/2026\/mar\/24\/new-york-city-bank-robber-on-the-run\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"> The Guardian<\/a> reported.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>At each branch, DeJesus-Torres passed a note to the bank teller demanding money, which included a threat of harm if they didn\u2019t comply.<\/p>\n<p><img style=\"aspect-ratio:0.87555556;display:block\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" data-modal-image=\"38966421\" width=\"517\" height=\"590\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/bank-robber-wanted-trying-stick-124859292.jpg\" alt=\"Gustavo DeJesus-Torres, a bank robber wanted for trying to stick up six banks across New York City.\" class=\"wp-image-38966421\"  \/>Gusatvo DeJesus-Torres, 33, was arrested today in relation to a string of bank robberies throughout New York City. NYPD<\/p>\n<p>But the thief had little luck after successfully robbing just three of the locations \u2014 making off with $320 from Jackson Heights, $265 from Flatbush, and a measly $20 from the Harlem branch.<\/p>\n<p>The US Marshals Service worked in coordination with the NYPD and Newark police \u2014 using surveillance footage, investigative leads and tips from the public to arrest the on-the-run bandit.<\/p>\n<p>DeJesus-Torres\u2019 rap sheet shows this isn\u2019t his first rodeo.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In June 2021, he was arrested in New Jersey after robbing a Chase bank in Newark and escaping with $6,000, the outlet reported.<\/p>\n<p><img style=\"aspect-ratio:0.88671875;display:block\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" data-modal-image=\"38966431\" width=\"523\" height=\"590\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/bank-robber-wanted-trying-stick-124859291.jpg\" alt=\"Slightly blurred image of Gustavo DeJesus-Torres, a bank robbery suspect, wearing a blue cap, white hoodie, and black jacket, holding a white cup.\" class=\"wp-image-38966431\"  \/>The bandit was only able to successfully rob three of the six Chase bank locations throughout the Big Apple.
