{"id":183064,"date":"2026-04-02T02:57:47","date_gmt":"2026-04-02T02:57:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/183064\/"},"modified":"2026-04-02T02:57:47","modified_gmt":"2026-04-02T02:57:47","slug":"co-ops-and-condos-united-of-ny-a-new-advocacy-group","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/183064\/","title":{"rendered":"Co-ops and Condos United of NY: A New Advocacy Group"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Co-op and condo boards \u2014 and the 1 million New Yorkers who live in their buildings \u2014 have a new friend.<\/p>\n<p>The Co-op and Condos United of New York, calling itself &#8220;a new umbrella co-op and condominium advocacy organization,&#8221; has announced its formation at a time when co-ops and condos are under worsening financial and regulatory pressures.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCo-ops and condos have taken a back seat for far too long in the political process in both New York City and New York State,\u201d Stuart Saft, a member of the new group&#8217;s executive committee and a partner at the law firm Holland &amp; Knight, tells the <a href=\"https:\/\/nyrej.com\/co-ops-and-condos-united-of-ny-launches-to-establish-advocacy-for-homeowners\" target=\"_self\" onclick=\" gtag(&#039;event&#039;, &#039;External Click&#039;, {&#039;event_category&#039;: &#039;Outgoing&#039;, &#039;event_label&#039;: &#039;https:\/\/nyrej.com\/co-ops-and-condos-united-of-ny-launches-to-establish-advocacy-for-homeowners&#039; });\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">New York Real Estate Journal<\/a>. \u201cOur intention is to provide a unified organization so that we can speak with one voice on the issues that matter most to our communities.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>At the state level, those issues include\u00a0renewal of the J51-R program, opposition to the Cooperative Corporations Law, support for establishing a condo first lien and seeking exemption from the Scaffold Law. At the city level, the coalition is engaged on reforms to Local Law 97 and\u00a0Local Law 11, while supporting the Co-op Carve Out Bill.
