UK Press via Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>This year\u2019s service (pictured here) has only taken place Wales twice in its 800-year history.  via REUTERS<\/p>\n<p>King Charles presented Royal Maundy gifts to approximately 77 men and 77 women from Wales and other dioceses across the UK, in recognition of outstanding Christian service and helping their communities.<\/p>\n<p>The \u201c77\u201d number matches the monarch\u2019s age, and recipients received two purses containing the \u201cMaundy Money.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>The Dean of St Asaph Cathedral, Nigel Williams, said they were \u201cdeeply honored\u201d to host the service, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/articles\/cvgke0qjn1yo\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">according to BBC<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>Notably, Wales is a special place for the royal family as the titles Prince and Princess of Wales \u2014 currently <a href=\"https:\/\/pagesix.com\/2022\/09\/09\/kate-middleton-named-princess-of-wales-after-queens-death\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">held by Prince William and Kate Middleton<\/a> \u2014 are the direct heirs to the throne.<\/p>\n<p>On Thursday, King Charles presented Royal Maundy gifts to approximately 77 men and 77 women from Wales.
