A seven-month-old baby girl was shot dead in her pram in New York City<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Police believe the child, named Kaori, was the unintended victim of a drive-by gang shooting in the Williamsburg neighbourhood of Brooklyn on Wednesday afternoon.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy daughter was innocent. She didn\u2019t deserve that,\u201d her mother Lianna Charles-Moore told the New York Post.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe were just going outside to go get her a few things, and my son a few things.\u201d<\/p>\n

Her two-year-old son, who witnessed the shooting, was grazed by the bullet.<\/p>\n

A manhunt for the driver is underway<\/p>\n

At least two rounds were fired from the weapon, New York City police commissioner Jessica Tisch said.<\/p>\n

As they fled, the moped crashed into a car and the alleged shooter was apprehended. A manhunt for the driver is underway.<\/p>\n

The collision had such force that the shoes of one of the men flew off his feet.<\/p>\n

\u201cA life that had barely begun was taken in an instant,\u201d New York City mayor Zohran Mamdani<\/a> said in a statement.<\/p>\n

\u201cToday is a devastating reminder of how much more work there is to be done to combat gun violence across this city.\u201d<\/p>\n

He demanded that such violence does not become normal and urged the city not to \u201cgrow numb to this pain\u201d.<\/p>\n

Officials said the little girl, who had recently learned to say the word \u201cMama\u201d, was taken in an ambulance to Woodhull Hospital where she was pronounced dead at 1.46pm.<\/p>\n

An injured man was taken to Brooklyn Hospital where he was identified as a \u201cperson of interest\u201d in the shooting.<\/p>\n
