1.\u00a0Murders at lowest level \u2018in recorded history\u2019 over first three months of 2026, NYPD says<\/a><\/p>\n

Murders were at their lowest level in the first three months in 2026 compared to the first three months of any year in the city\u2019s recorded history, Mayor Zohran Mamdani and Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch announced yesterday.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn the first three months of the year, New York City has recorded the fewest murders since we began tracking these numbers decades ago,\u201d Mamdani said.<\/p>\n

2.\u00a0Subway crime down slightly over last year after early surge<\/a><\/p>\n

Despite several high-profile incidents, crime in New York City\u2019s subway system remains low, according to police.<\/p>\n

The NYPD says transit crime is down 1.3% so far this year, with felony assaults dropping 6.6%. Officials noted a spike earlier in the winter tied to cold weather and more people seeking shelter underground, but crime fell in March after an additional 150 officers were deployed.<\/p>\n

3.\u00a0Woman killed in hit-and-run involving ambulance in Brooklyn<\/a><\/p>\n

A 44-year-old woman was killed in a hit-and-run involving an ambulance in Brooklyn, police said.<\/p>\n

Surveillance video shows the woman crossing Ocean Avenue when the EMS vehicle turned and struck her before continuing on. The ambulance, operated by Maimonides Medical Center, did not stop, and it remains unclear if the driver realized what happened.<\/p>\n
