{"id":18448,"date":"2025-10-27T15:30:33","date_gmt":"2025-10-27T15:30:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/18448\/"},"modified":"2025-10-27T15:30:33","modified_gmt":"2025-10-27T15:30:33","slug":"midweek-noreasters-lingering-effects-could-dampen-halloween","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/18448\/","title":{"rendered":"Midweek nor&#8217;easter&#8217;s lingering effects could dampen Halloween"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A nor\u2019easter <a href=\"https:\/\/www.accuweather.com\/en\/hurricane\/melissa-future-noreaster-to-team-up-along-us-east-coast-this-week\/1828157\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">storm system lurking off the coast<\/a> is set to slide into the U.S. Northeast midweek, making for a potentially soggy and windblown Halloween, weather experts said Monday.<\/p>\n<p>While it\u2019s slated to move on by Friday, residual effects could linger as trick-or-treaters venture out on their annual candy forage, meteorologists noted.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt looks like it\u2019s going to be Wednesday night through Thursday night will be the best chances for rainfall,\u201d National Weather Service meteorologist Brian Ciemnecki told the Daily News on Monday morning. \u201cAnd then those chances should diminish through the day Friday.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The National Weather Service forecasted possible \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/forecast.weather.gov\/product.php?site=NWS&amp;issuedby=OKX&amp;product=AFD&amp;format=CI&amp;version=1&amp;glossary=1&amp;highlight=off\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">brief, occasional strong wind gusts<\/a>\u201d of close to 50mph Thursday through Friday, though 40 mph gusts were more likely. The heavy rains posed the potential for \u201cmostly minor\u201d flooding, especially in \u201cpoor drainage areas,\u201d the NWS said. Storm surge and high surf could bring \u201cminor to locally moderate\u201d flooding to parts of the coast.<\/p>\n<p>New Jersey was also bracing for strong wind gusts up to 40 or 50 mph and potential moderate to minor coastal flooding, along with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nj.com\/weather\/2025\/10\/nj-weather-noreaster-forecast-update-includes-50-mph-gusts-up-to-2-inches-of-rain-latest-on-timing.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">up to 1 or 2 inches of rain<\/a>, and more near the coast, NJ Advance Media reported.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/boston\/news\/noreaster-halloween-boston-weather\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">New England was the most at risk for a rained-out Halloween<\/a>, the National Weather Service said, since the storm would likely travel northeast.<\/p>\n<p>Though Ciemnecki hesitated to brand the tempest as a nor\u2019easter, he said the chance of rain would grow in New York City throughout the day Wednesday. Then, depending on how the system evolves, Friday could be relatively clear in time for costumed creatures to roam their neighborhoods \u2014 wearing galoshes.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe bulk of the rain will come to an end Friday morning, but there may still be some showers throughout the day Friday into Friday evening,\u201d Ciemnecki said of the storm, which is typical for this time of year. \u201cWe\u2019ll see how it all plays out.
