MIDTOWN, Brooklyn (PIX11) \u2014 A woman was killed after being struck by an ambulance in Brooklyn early Thursday morning, according to police.<\/p>\n
The ambulance driver from Maimonides Medical Center was turning onto Ocean Avenue from Avenue O when he hit 44-year-old Cherry Cayetano Sobel as she crossed the street just before 6:40 a.m., police said.<\/p>\n

It remains unknown whether the driver realized he had hit the woman, according to authorities.<\/p>\n Sobel was found with severe body trauma and was transported to Maimonides Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead, officials reported.<\/p>\n More Local News <\/a><\/p>\n The EMT staff who were involved in the incident have since been suspended pending the outcome of the NYPD\u2019s investigation, a representative for Maimonides told PIX11.<\/p>\n \u201cThe Maimonides family is devastated by this tragic loss,\u201d read a statement from the hospital. \u201cOur heart goes out\u00a0to the victim\u2019s family and friends.\u201d<\/p>\n No arrests have been made as the incident remains under investigation.<\/p>\n Dominique Jack is a digital content producer from Brooklyn with more than five years of experience covering news.
