Trump signed the executive order on Tuesday,<\/a> which calls for the Social Security Administration to prepare a list of verified eligible voters and requires absentee ballots to only be sent to each state’s approved list.\u00a0<\/p>\n“Cheating on mail-in voting is legendary, it’s horrible what’s gone on,” Trump said upon signing the order. “It’s very clearly covered, very very clearly so. I think this will help with a lot of elections.”<\/p>\n
The president has repeatedly lied about the outcome of the 2020 presidential campaign and the integrity of state-run elections, asserting again Tuesday that he won “three times” and citing accusations of voter fraud that numerous audits, investigations and courts have debunked.<\/p>\n
James’ lawsuit aims to block to executive order and prohibit federal agencies from following in the directive.<\/p>\n
“This executive order is yet another attempt to disenfranchise voters and sow distrust in our electoral system as we head into the next election cycle,” James said in a statement. “Our elections are and always have been free, fair, and secure, and we will not allow this administration to attack the very foundation of our nation.”<\/p>\n
