CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Purdue Fort Wayne men’s volleyball team defeated Queens in four sets (25-17, 22-25, 25-20, 26-24) on Friday night (April 3) to complete the season sweep over the Lions.<\/p>\n
The Mastodons hit 10 service aces for just the second time this season, along with a hitting percentage over .400 in three of the four sets in the contest.<\/p>\n
The ‘Dons started off round two firing, hitting five service aces and a .625 hitting percentage in the frame. Purdue Fort Wayne used an early 11-1 scoring stretch, fueled by three aces from Vincent Spadoni\u00a0and three kills by Ethan Skalski<\/a>. The Mastodons cruised through the remainder of the set, taking the opening frame 25-17.<\/p>\n Queens opened the second set with a 9-3 run, including a stretch of four unanswered points. Despite the ‘Dons hitting .462 in the set, The Lions’ match-high .417 hitting percentage held off any attempt for a 25-22 set equalizer.<\/p>\n The Lions scored an early five unanswered in the third set, owning a 9-4 lead. Purdue Fort Wayne responded with a 9-2 run, leaning on another three kills from Skalski. The Mastodons put Queens away with a 7-2 run, finishing the frame at 25-20.<\/p>\n The ‘Dons threatened to run away with the final set early, owning a 13-6 lead following a 10-2 Purdue Fort Wayne run. The Lions used scoring surges of 8-2 and 6-1 to even the score at 24-24. The Mastodons were able to end the match shortly after, winning 26-24 after two Queens errors.<\/p>\n
