Page Six recently reported that a noted New York classical composer is wanted in Russia over a\u00a0titanium\u00a0deal gone wrong \u2014 and the battle is becoming increasingly operatic. <\/p>\n
Igor Raykhelson \u2014 whose works have been performed in both Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center \u2014 also trades in metals and sold\u00a0titanium\u00a0to\u00a0Russian metal giant AVISMA.<\/p>\n
But the company claims he was working with an inside man to overcharge the company by millions of dollars. <\/p>\n

Now the Russian-born composer of the \u201cAdagio for Viola and Strings\u201d tells us:\u00a0\u201cThey want me to kneel down and pay them millions. I told them to go to hell.\u201d <\/p>\n
\u201cTheir lawsuit basically says that a deal we struck to sell them\u00a0titanium\u00a010 years ago was priced too high even though they didn\u2019t complain at the time,\u201d he told us, \u201cThey are also ignoring a legal agreement we all signed back then not to sue each other. It makes no sense at all. It\u2019s a shakedown.\u201d<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, he made clear that \u2014 while AVISMA supplies\u00a0titanium\u00a0to the Russian military \u2014 the metal he sold them was never used for the armed forced. \u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cWe supplied only [so-called] Western-grade scrap which could only be used to produce\u00a0titanium\u00a0products destined to the West.\u201d \u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m not going to kneel down to anyone,\u201d Raykhelson added. \u201cI\u2019ll fight them to the end.\u201d<\/p>\n

Raykhelson\u2019s work has been a favorite of famed Russian conductor Yuri Bashmet, who has conducted Raykhelson\u2019s Jazz Suite, Adagio for Viola and Strings, and the Viola Concerto to considerable acclaim.<\/p>\n
Bashmet and the Moscow Soloist Orchestra performed the Adagio at Carnegie Hall in 2003, and performed Rakyhelson\u2019s work at Lincoln Center in 2006.<\/p>\n
