New York City parents now have a powerful new tool to simplify the often overwhelming search for child care. Mayor Zohran Mamdani announced the launch of an online child care map and resource center at nyc.gov\/childcare<\/a>, designed to help families find, compare, and choose programs that best meet their needs across all five boroughs.<\/p>\n

For the first time, parents can access a single platform to search for child care by location, age group, and cost, while also reviewing detailed information on services, eligibility, and provider contacts. The interactive site is mobile-friendly, available in multiple languages, and was developed with input from parents and child care<\/a> advocates to ensure usability and accessibility.<\/p>\n

The launch reflects the Mamdani<\/a> administration\u2019s ongoing commitment to universal, accessible child care. Recent initiatives include the addition of over 1,000 new 3-K seats in high-demand neighborhoods and the introduction of 2,000 free 2-K seats in four communities. By pairing increased capacity with an easy-to-use digital platform, the city hopes to reduce the stress and time burden parents face when searching for care.<\/p>\n

\u201cParents already carry so much. Finding child care shouldn\u2019t feel like a second job,\u201d said Mayor Mamdani in a press statement. \u201cThis tool is about making government work for people \u2014 simple, clear, and accessible \u2014 so every parent can make the best decision for their child.\u201d<\/p>\n

The platform consolidates information on roughly 10,000 child care providers<\/a> and includes features to support families at every stage of the search. These include plain-language guides explaining the different program types, a short questionnaire to help match families with providers, inspection records, directions, contact details, and live support through multilingual Child Care Resource Centers.<\/p>\n

CTO and OTI Commissioner Lisa Gelobter called the map \u201cgame-changing,\u201d noting that it allows parents to avoid the frustration of searching multiple websites while connecting directly with city and state-supported programs.<\/p>\n

Parent and community organizer Kellan Calder emphasized in a press statement the platform\u2019s impact: \u201cFor years, parents had to scramble and stress to find child care. Today, that era comes to an end. This website lets parents understand New York\u2019s child care options at a glance, making it easier to access the free and affordable care they deserve.\u201d<\/p>\n

The initiative also has the support of the NYC Child Care Resource & Referral Consortium<\/a>, which praised the platform as a single entry point for families seeking guidance and one-on-one support. By combining technology, community engagement, and expanded early childhood seats, the city is working to make reliable, high-quality child care a reality for every New Yorker.<\/p>\n
