Mayor Zohran Mamdani announced the launch of an online child care map and resource center at nyc.gov/childcare, designed to help families find, compare, and choose programs that best meet their needs across all five boroughs.

For the first time, parents can access a single platform to search for child care by location, age group, and cost, while also reviewing detailed information on services, eligibility, and provider contacts. The interactive site is mobile-friendly, available in multiple languages, and was developed with input from parents and child care advocates to ensure usability and accessibility.

Never miss new stories in Harlem

The launch reflects the Mamdani administration’s ongoing commitment to universal, accessible child care. Recent initiatives include the addition of over 1,000 new 3-K seats in high-demand neighborhoods and the introduction of 2,000 free 2-K seats in four communities. By pairing increased capacity with an easy-to-use digital platform, the city hopes to reduce the stress and time burden parents face when searching for care.

“Parents already carry so much. Finding child care shouldn’t feel like a second job,” said Mayor Mamdani in a press statement. “This tool is about making government work for people — simple, clear, and accessible — so every parent can make the best decision for their child.”

The platform consolidates information on roughly 10,000 child care providers and includes features to support families at every stage of the search. These include plain-language guides explaining the different program types, a short questionnaire to help match families with providers, inspection records, directions, contact details, and live support through multilingual Child Care Resource Centers.

CTO and OTI Commissioner Lisa Gelobter called the map “game-changing,” noting that it allows parents to avoid the frustration of searching multiple websites while connecting directly with city and state-supported programs.

Parent and community organizer Kellan Calder emphasized in a press statement the platform’s impact: “For years, parents had to scramble and stress to find child care. Today, that era comes to an end. This website lets parents understand New York’s child care options at a glance, making it easier to access the free and affordable care they deserve.”

The initiative also has the support of the NYC Child Care Resource & Referral Consortium, which praised the platform as a single entry point for families seeking guidance and one-on-one support. By combining technology, community engagement, and expanded early childhood seats, the city is working to make reliable, high-quality child care a reality for every New Yorker.

Photo: Mayor’s Office

Latest Posts:

Become a Harlem Insider!

From history to today’s headlines—everything Harlem, in your inbox.

By signing up, you’re agreeing to receive communications from Harlem World Magazine and our Privay Policy.

By HWM New York City parents now have a powerful new tool to simplify the often overwhelming search…

[8
74605,9,56,63,74606,65,64,22744
0":"post-185516","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-new-york-city","8":"tag-city-council-majority-leader","9":"tag-new-york","10":"tag-ny","11":"tag-nyc","12":"tag-nyc-dog-ban","13":"tag-nyc-headlines","14":"tag-nyc-news","15":"tag-shaun-abreu
["GET
