For the final 52 minutes and 59 seconds of the game, the Jacksonville Dolphins kept a clean sheet en route to a dominant home win.

The Dolphins (6-4, 2-0 ASUN) rolled past the Queens Royals 14-1 Saturday afternoon in the penultimate regular season game of the season at Rock Stadium. One goal allowed is the fewest in a game in Jacksonville program history.

Graduate student goalie Ryan Della Rocco was a stalwart in net, making nine saves against the one goal allowed (90% save rate). Offensively, Jacksonville was led by dynamic freshman Zane Czeschin.

Czeschin set new career highs across the board. He set new bests for points (6), goals (5), ground balls (4) and caused turnovers (2) to lead the way for the Dolphins.

It only took 73 seconds for Jacksonville to get on the score sheet. Senior Jack Taylor carried the ball past goal-line extended and scanned the field. He found junior William Krupsky for a wide-open step down to start the scoring.

The Dolphins swung the ball to senior Nicky Brown at X, and the senior playmaker spotted Czeschin wide-open just inside the restraining arc. The freshman from Birmingham, Alabama splashed home a long-range effort for the first of his five goals.

Queens got its long goal of the day, but Jacksonville answered with a 12-0 run the rest of the game.

Czeschin scored unassisted, setting up his defender on an island before slipping to the middle and hammering a shot from mid-range. On the ensuing faceoff, graduate student midfielder Charlie DiGennaro caught the defense sleeping and found himself wide-open for a hammer from distance.

In the second quarter, sophomore Daylin John-Hill scanned the field from up top, slinging a pass to Taylor, who finished on the crease. Freshman Kai Smith found a hole in the defense off a missed shot, burying a wide-open chance for another JU tally.

Jacksonville notched another right off the faceoff. The ball popped free into the path of senior midfielder Breyden Harrison who passed it over to Czeschin for the finish. Krupsky closed the half with his second goal, finishing off a man-up play at the shot-clock buzzer.

Czeschin kept his hot streak rolling into the second half, rocking and rolling past his defender and firing a shot in the back of the net. At the end of the third quarter, Harrison took the ball coast-to-coast to complete a two-point day for the short-stick defensive midfielder.

In the fourth quarter, Krupsky completed his hat-trick to cap off a well worked man-up set. DiGennaro scored his second of the day, then sophomore Jack Russo scored a late goal to close out a dominant day at Rock Beach.

Game Notes

With three points (1G, 2A), Taylor tied Jack Dolan for the third-most career points in JU history with 165.
Czeschin is averaging 5.5 points per game in ASUN play. With Saturday’s performance, he crossed the 30-point mark for the season.
The previous record for fewest goals allowed in a game was two, when the Dolphins defeated Bellarmine 16-2 in 2022.

Head Coach John Galloway
“I am really proud of our guys today. Ryan Della Rocco was huge, and Drew Rippeon was fantastic in the middle of the field. Zane Czeschin continues his freshmen campaign with such impressive poise and confidence. I am really proud of our rope unit as well for continuing to improve their skills in between the lines. Charlie DiGennaro has led that effort in practice. We have a lot to address but we look forward to week three in conference play.”

Up Next

The Dolphins will host the Utah Utes for senior day at Rock Stadium next Saturday.
