GOSHEN\u00a0\u2014 When the local police department posted online on Wednesday<\/a> that its officers had rescued a dog from a roof, most people thought it was an April Fool\u2019s joke. It wasn\u2019t.\u00a0<\/p>\n

What happened was this: A labradoodle decided to get some sunshine by pushing open a window screen and climbing onto the roof while its owner wasn\u2019t home. Just before 3 p.m. on Wednesday, a motorist driving by spotted the daredevil dog and became concerned.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen the lady called and said, \u2018I\u2019m driving through Goshen and I see a dog on the roof of a big house,\u2019 we thought we were getting pranked,\u201d Goshen Police Chief Jim Post said.<\/p>\n

As the caller described the location, Post soon realized it was legit. Once police had the address, they called the homeowner, who was an hour away, Post said. The homeowner permitted officers to enter the house to try to lure the treasured pooch to safety.<\/p>\n

Post dispatched brand-new K-9 officer Michael Figueroa for the job, adding that he thought it would be \u201cright up his alley.\u201d<\/p>\n

Once inside the house, Figueroa could see that the dog had pushed the screen out to clamber up onto the roof. Now, he was whining and crying to come back in.<\/p>\n

What\u2019s more, a \u201cwayward bird\u201d had flown into the house through the open window, Post said. The bird allegedly attacked Figueroa as he attempted to coax the dog back inside.<\/p>\n

Initially, the pooch seemed afraid of Figueroa and acted like he wanted to jump from the roof. But with the help of some treats, Figueroa was able to get it to safety. The bird was shooed back outside without further incident, Post added.<\/p>\n

In the Facebook post, Goshen police urged residents to check their window screens.<\/p>\n
