{"id":185921,"date":"2026-04-05T04:22:27","date_gmt":"2026-04-05T04:22:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/185921\/"},"modified":"2026-04-05T04:22:27","modified_gmt":"2026-04-05T04:22:27","slug":"mens-lacrosse-upended-by-merrimack-on-good-friday","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/185921\/","title":{"rendered":"Men\u2019s Lacrosse Upended by Merrimack on Good Friday"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>                    &#13;<br \/>\n                        &#13;<br \/>\n &#13;<\/p>\n<p>RIVERDALE, NY \u2013 The Manhattan Jaspers Men&#8217;s Lacrosse team (2-9, 0-5 MAAC) fell to the Warriors of Merrimack College (4-8, 3-3 MAAC) by a score of 11-9 inside Gaelic Park on Friday morning.<\/p>\n<p>HOW IT HAPPENED<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n\tBoth teams opened the contest by trading nearly 7 combined shots before <a href=\"https:\/\/gojaspers.com\/sports\/mens-lacrosse\/roster\/ryan-beller\/10160\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"10160\" target=\"_blank\">Ryan Beller<\/a> scooped up the ground ball and cleared it down the field for Manhattan.&#13;<br \/>\n\tThen, the Green and White took advantage of the extra man opportunity with <a href=\"https:\/\/gojaspers.com\/sports\/mens-lacrosse\/roster\/sean-shelko\/10109\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"10109\" target=\"_blank\">Sean Shelko<\/a> finding the back of the net courtesy of <a href=\"https:\/\/gojaspers.com\/sports\/mens-lacrosse\/roster\/tyler-mosca\/10170\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"10170\" target=\"_blank\">Tyler Mosca&#8217;s<\/a> pass inside.&#13;<br \/>\n\tIn the second quarter, after the Warriors tied the game at one, <a href=\"https:\/\/gojaspers.com\/sports\/mens-lacrosse\/roster\/liam-peabody\/10101\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"10101\" target=\"_blank\">Liam Peabody<\/a> pushed the Jaspers ahead of Merrimack two minutes in.&#13;<br \/>\n\tAfter facing three shots, <a href=\"https:\/\/gojaspers.com\/sports\/mens-lacrosse\/roster\/ryan-beller\/10160\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"10160\" target=\"_blank\">Ryan Beller<\/a> and the Jaspers were able to stymie any further threat, and clear for <a href=\"https:\/\/gojaspers.com\/sports\/mens-lacrosse\/roster\/jack-miller\/10167\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"10167\" target=\"_blank\">Jack Miller<\/a>, who fed a pass to <a href=\"https:\/\/gojaspers.com\/sports\/mens-lacrosse\/roster\/alex-bales\/10162\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"10162\" target=\"_blank\">Alex Bales<\/a> for his second of the season, and a two-goal advantage.&#13;<br \/>\n\tWithin the next minute, the Warriors rang off three consecutive goals, before the Jaspers found the back of the net and stopped the bleeding with a <a href=\"https:\/\/gojaspers.com\/sports\/mens-lacrosse\/roster\/thomas-white\/12153\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"12153\" target=\"_blank\">Thomas White<\/a> power play goal to tie the game at four.&#13;<br \/>\n\tIn the waning seconds of the first half, Merrimack leaped in front with the go-ahead goal with three seconds remaining and headed to the locker room with momentum.&#13;<br \/>\n\tThe Warriors began the third quarter with two goals to spread their margin to three, before <a href=\"https:\/\/gojaspers.com\/sports\/mens-lacrosse\/roster\/gavin-wolf\/10168\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"10168\" target=\"_blank\">Gavin Wolf<\/a> forced Merrimack to turn the ball over and find Miller for the team&#8217;s fifth goal of the game with just under five minutes.&#13;<br \/>\n\tIn the fourth quarter, the Jaspers turned on the jets with two quick goals from Miller and <a href=\"https:\/\/gojaspers.com\/sports\/mens-lacrosse\/roster\/connor-engel\/12170\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"12170\" target=\"_blank\">Connor Engel<\/a> within three minutes to tie the game at seven. The latter goal came from a caused turnover by <a href=\"https:\/\/gojaspers.com\/sports\/mens-lacrosse\/roster\/matthew-cleary\/12158\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"12158\" target=\"_blank\">Matthew Cleary<\/a>, leading to a pair of opportunities for the Green and White before Engel capitalized on the third chance.&#13;<br \/>\n\tSeconds later, the Warriors opened a stretch of three goals in two and a half minutes to go ahead by three over Manhattan.&#13;<br \/>\n\tThe Jasper responded 57 seconds later with a <a href=\"https:\/\/gojaspers.com\/sports\/mens-lacrosse\/roster\/thomas-white\/12153\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"12153\" target=\"_blank\">Thomas White<\/a> marker, but the Warriors posted the dagger with five and a quarter minutes.&#13;<\/p>\n<p>STATS AND NOTES<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n\tRedshirt Junior faceoff specialist <a href=\"https:\/\/gojaspers.com\/sports\/mens-lacrosse\/roster\/casey-klossner\/10091\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"10091\" target=\"_blank\">Casey Klossner<\/a> logged eight face off wins in 21 total attempts, while scooping nine ground balls on the night.&#13;<br \/>\n\tSophomore midfielder <a href=\"https:\/\/gojaspers.com\/sports\/mens-lacrosse\/roster\/thomas-white\/12153\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"12153\" target=\"_blank\">Thomas White<\/a> added three goals on eight shots, with six on target, and scooped one ground ball.&#13;<br \/>\n\tFreshman defender <a href=\"https:\/\/gojaspers.com\/sports\/mens-lacrosse\/roster\/michael-medici\/12149\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"12149\" target=\"_blank\">Michael Medici<\/a> scooped three ground balls and caused three turnovers in the contest.&#13;<br \/>\n\tRedshirt sophomore midfielder <a href=\"https:\/\/gojaspers.com\/sports\/mens-lacrosse\/roster\/jack-miller\/10167\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"10167\" target=\"_blank\">Jack Miller<\/a> supplied two goals and two assists on as many shots on goal.&#13;<br \/>\n\tSenior midfielder <a href=\"https:\/\/gojaspers.com\/sports\/mens-lacrosse\/roster\/liam-peabody\/10101\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"10101\" target=\"_blank\">Liam Peabody<\/a> registered one goal and two assists on six shots with four on target.&#13;<br \/>\n\tComing off an emotional equalizer in the previous contest against the Mount, redshirt junior attack <a href=\"https:\/\/gojaspers.com\/sports\/mens-lacrosse\/roster\/sean-shelko\/10109\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"10109\" target=\"_blank\">Sean Shelko<\/a> followed suit with a goal on three shots, while scooping four ground balls.&#13;<br \/>\n\tRedshirt sophomore midfielder <a href=\"https:\/\/gojaspers.com\/sports\/mens-lacrosse\/roster\/alex-bales\/10162\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"10162\" target=\"_blank\">Alex Bales<\/a> added his second goal of the year on two shots on target.&#13;<br \/>\n\tJunior attack <a href=\"https:\/\/gojaspers.com\/sports\/mens-lacrosse\/roster\/connor-engel\/12170\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"12170\" target=\"_blank\">Connor Engel<\/a> posted one goal and one assist on three shots on goal and grabbed one ground ball.&#13;<br \/>\n\tRedshirt sophomore goalie <a href=\"https:\/\/gojaspers.com\/sports\/mens-lacrosse\/roster\/ryan-beller\/10160\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"10160\" target=\"_blank\">Ryan Beller<\/a> led the way for the Green and White with 14 saves on the afternoon.&#13;<br \/>\n\tFinally, Manhattan went 2-for-4 on extra-man opportunities.&#13;<\/p>\n<p>NEXT UP:<\/p>\n<p>The Jaspers continue their campaign on Saturday, April 11, when the Red Foxes of Marist University come to Gaelic Park for a special 7 p.m. opening faceoff.
