Saturday and Sunday, April 4-5, marked the 94th and 95th days of Zohran Mamdani\u2019s term as mayor. amNewYork is following Mamdani around his first 100 days in office. We are closely tracking his progress on fulfilling campaign promises, appointing key leaders to government posts, and managing the city\u2019s finances. Here\u2019s a summary of what the mayor did yesterday and today.<\/p>\n
After a quiet Saturday, Mayor Zohran Mamdani spent Easter Sunday celebrating with New York City Christians across Brooklyn and the Bronx.\n<\/p>\n
Mamdani started his day at the Bronx Bethany Church of the Nazarene before heading to the Ebenezer Urban Ministry Center in Brooklyn to attend services and deliver remarks.<\/p>\n
At Bronx Bethany, Mamdani quoted a speech by Martin Luther King Jr., reflecting on Easter \u2014 marking the resurrection of Jesus Christ for Christians \u2014 as it relates to social justice.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019ve been buried in numerous graves: the grave of economic insecurity, the grave of exploitation, the grave of oppression. We\u2019ve watched justice trampled over and truth crucified,\u201d Mamdani said, quoting King.<\/p>\n
Mamdani, describing the holiday as a \u201ctime of renewal in our city,\u201d said that faith has \u201cguided so many through moments of hardship, moments of loneliness.\u201d<\/p>\n

Like many speeches he has delivered at houses of worship, Mamdani tied the holiday back to his primary focus in office: affordability.<\/p>\n
\u201cFor working people, life in our city has grown into a heavy burden. Costs have soared, neighborhoods have been left hollow, and it is not a weight that has been borne evenly,\u201d Mamdani said, noting that 200,000 Black New Yorkers have been priced out of the city throughout the past three decades.<\/p>\n
Mamdani spoke of the importance of good government and its responsibility to deliver \u201clight\u201d and \u201cease\u201d to working people. He touted his administration\u2019s agreement with the state<\/a> in early January to create a free childcare program for two-year-olds in New York City, a hallmark of his campaign for office.<\/p>\n \u201cAs we build out universal childcare, we also seek to do so while delivering more housing in this city, because it has become too expensive to call this place our home,\u201d Mamdani said, alluding to his plan to fast-track housing projects<\/a> on public land in the outer boroughs.<\/p>\n Closing out his remarks, he urged unity, saying that \u201cdarkness thrives and arrives when working people are pitted against one another.\u201d\u00a0\n<\/p>\n Mamdani delivered nearly identical remarks at the Ebenezer Urban Ministry Center in Brooklyn.
