Staten Island cops are investigating a deadly crash early on Monday morning in which an SUV driver struck and killed a pedestrian.<\/p>\n

Law enforcement sources said the incident unfolded at about 12:30 a.m. on April 6 along Ring Road near Platinum Avenue, near the Staten Island Mall.\n<\/p>\n

Police reported that a 51-year-old man behind the wheel of a 2015 white Nissan Pathfinder was traveling southbound on Ring Road when he lost control of the vehicle.<\/p>\n

Cops said the vehicle veered onto the sidewalk and struck the victim, a 40-year-old man, sending him flying through the air.\n<\/p>\n

The Pathfinder driver stopped his vehicle and remained at the scene. Officers from the 121st Precinct<\/a> and EMS units arrived moments later.\n<\/p>\n

Police found the 40-year-old male pedestrian with severe head and body trauma. EMS rushed him to\u00a0Staten Island University Hospital, where he could not be saved and was pronounced dead. His identity is pending proper family notification.<\/p>\n

Sources close to the investigation said the SUV driver is cooperating with law enforcement. No charges have been filed against him.\n<\/p>\n

The NYPD Collision Investigation Squad is now examining the case.<\/p>\n
