A catch basin at the intersection of Webster Ave. and E. 176th St. is causing safety concerns for residents in the area.<\/p>\n
\tThe catch basin is completely collapsed and filled with trash and debris.<\/p>\n
\tLeonardo, who is in the area often, says he has seen cars get serious damage because of the collapsed catch basin.<\/p>\n
\t“It’s really unfortunate for commuters driving their cars. They come and turn this corner, and they hit it, and things happen. Tires pop, axles break,” he said.<\/p>\n
\tNacole, who lives in the area, says she fell into a catch basin not too long ago. Now, she is stressing the importance of fixing it.<\/p>\n
\t“They really need to because it’s very dangerous. Cars be coming and, depending on the way they turn, they can fall in the ditch too,” she said.<\/p>\n
\tMayor Mamdani recently announced a $108 million investment to replace the city’s outdated sewer drains.<\/p>\n
\tLeonardo says he is hopeful for this change.<\/p>\n
\t“If Mamdani says he’s going to have the same program come around and it will fix these things, hopefully it will work out,” he said.<\/p>\n
