\u201cFaith Explained\u201d\u00a0promises to be\u00a0visually\u00a0arresting, said Conor Donnelly,\u00a0the show\u2019s\u00a0producer, who is working closely with Father\u00a0Gibino\u00a0on\u00a0planning and filming each\u00a0episode.\u00a0\u201cWe\u2019re\u00a0actually using\u00a0virtual\u00a0set technology,\u201d he explained.\u00a0\u201cIt\u2019s\u00a0basically a\u00a03-D environment that we put Father Joe in.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
Virtual set technology combines\u00a0live\u00a0people\u00a0with\u00a0digitally created\u00a0environments,\u00a0replacing\u00a0physical sets.\u00a0The technology\u00a0enables\u00a0instantaneous background changes, helping\u00a0the images come\u00a0to life\u00a0for the viewer.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cFaith Explained\u201d\u00a0will air once a month at\u00a0first,\u00a0but\u00a0Donnelly said he\u00a0hopes\u00a0there\u00a0will\u00a0eventually\u00a0be new episodes\u00a0weekly.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Father\u00a0Gibino\u00a0said his\u00a0goal for the series is to prove to the viewers that the Catholic Church is bold,\u00a0dynamic,\u00a0and unafraid to talk about controversial topics\u00a0\u2014 such as the church\u2019s stand against assisted suicide.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cThe one thing I want to\u00a0stress,\u00a0and hope comes through,\u00a0is that I want it to be very contemporary.\u00a0I want the look and feel to be\u00a0what\u2019s\u00a0happening now,\u201d he said. \u201cWe have\u00a0a number of\u00a0challenging issues facing us\u00a0that I really want to dive into.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cFor example,\u00a0assisted\u00a0suicide. People ask, \u2018Why can\u2019t we help people end their lives and end their suffering?\u2019\u00a0That is\u00a0a good\u00a0question,\u00a0and\u00a0it is\u00a0a contemporary question\u00a0that I will answer.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
The\u00a0show\u2019s name, \u201cFaith Explained,\u201d was inspired by Father\u00a0Gibino\u2019s\u00a0love of \u201cThe\u00a0UnXplained,\u201d\u00a0the popular History Channel show\u00a0hosted by\u00a0actor William Shatner,\u00a0best known for\u00a0\u201cStar Trek,\u201d\u00a0which\u00a0explores\u00a0mysteries that have perplexed historians and scientists for years.\u00a0<\/p>\n
In a nod to \u201cThe\u00a0UnXplained,\u201d\u00a0Father\u00a0Gibino\u00a0asked for the\u00a0set\u00a0design to include a director\u2019s chair because Shatner uses one on his show.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The folks at DeSales Studio Productions\u00a0came up with\u00a0the idea for\u00a0\u201cFaith Explained\u201d\u00a0and brought it to Father\u00a0Gibino, who\u00a0immediately\u00a0jumped on board.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
Father\u00a0Gibino\u00a0was a natural\u00a0fit,\u00a0Donnelly said.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cWe were looking at existing ministries in the diocese.\u00a0We want to amplify\u00a0them,\u00a0and\u00a0Father\u00a0Gibino\u00a0works with\u00a0many\u00a0of them,\u201d\u00a0Donnelly\u00a0said, adding that\u00a0Father\u00a0Gibino\u00a0has been\u00a0really good\u00a0to work with.\u00a0\u201cHe came to us with a\u00a0year\u2019s worth of episode ideas.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
Father Gibino said he is looking forward to bringing \u201cFaith Explained\u201d to viewers, with an approach that feels timely and accessible.\u00a0<\/p>\n
