Loew\u2019s Jersey Theatre unveiled new architectural renderings and a redesigned logo, offering a first look at its transformation into a year-round, multi-purpose cultural destination in Jersey City\u2019s Journal Square.\n<\/p>\n

The project marks a major milestone in the restoration of the historic 1929 \u201cWonder Theatre.\u201d The effort is a partnership between the Jersey City Redevelopment Agency<\/a>, the State of New Jersey\/New Jersey Economic Development Authority<\/a> and Harris Blitzer Sports & Entertainment<\/a>\n<\/p>\n

The venue is expected to reopen this fall.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Loew\u2019s Jersey Theatre<\/a> is a symbol of Jersey City\u2019s past and future,\u201d Jersey City Mayor James Solomon said in the April 6 announcement. \u201cFor decades, Journal Square has been the heart of our city, home to working families, immigrants, and dreamers, and this restoration is a testament to their resilience and to the neighborhood they never gave up on.\u201d\n<\/p>\n

Upon reopening, the venue is expected to host approximately 150 events annually, including live music, comedy, touring productions, sporting events and community programming. The long-awaited project<\/a> will return the theater to active use after more than 40 years, with a flexible capacity ranging from roughly 2,600 to 4,000 attendees.

Meet the team<\/p>\n

The project team includes:\n<\/p>\n

OTJ Architects \u2013 leading the full architectural rehabilitation of the historic structure, including both interior and exterior restoration and the redesign of the orchestra level to allow for flexible seating configurations
\nPhelps Construction Group \u2013 overseeing construction and the broader rehabilitation effort, encompassing upgrades to mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems as well as back-of-house and loading areas
\nOff the Record Collective, led by Kerri Silvestri \u2013 directing the experiential interior design for artist and backstage spaces, blending the theatre\u2019s historic character with modern functionality.<\/p>\n

The redesign emphasizes immersive, modern performance capabilities, including advanced lighting, projection and sound systems, along with configurable seating to accommodate a wide range of events. The broader rehabilitation preserves key architectural elements while modernizing the venue to support concerts, film, live performances and hybrid events.\n<\/p>\n

The project also introduces a new visual identity, with a logo inspired by the theater\u2019s 1920s origins and ornate interior design, reinforcing its blend of historic character and modern functionality.\n<\/p>\n
