{"id":187767,"date":"2026-04-06T23:16:10","date_gmt":"2026-04-06T23:16:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/187767\/"},"modified":"2026-04-06T23:16:10","modified_gmt":"2026-04-06T23:16:10","slug":"miracle-5-year-old-boy-survives-two-story-fall-from-nyc-fire-escape","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/187767\/","title":{"rendered":"&#8216;Miracle&#8217; 5-year-old boy survives two-story fall from NYC fire escape"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A 5-year-old Bronx boy was battered but alive after tumbling to the sidewalk from a second-story fire escape at his family\u2019s apartment building Monday, his parents told The Post.<\/p>\n<p>Little Javonte Francis climbed out of the family\u2019s fourth-floor window while his parents and older siblings were home at the East 167th Street building shortly before 11 a.m., scrambled down two flights on the fire escape, then fell to the ground and was rushed into surgery at Harlem Hospital but will make it through, the family said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA miracle,\u201d Javonte\u2019s mom, Luzkeishia Fortys, said at the Morrisania apartment building hours after the frightening mishap. \u201cThe grace of God. James Messerschmidt for NY Post<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe walking. He was screaming,\u201d Fortys said. \u201cHe was conscious. He was fighting, arguing with the paramedics and everything.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>The boy\u2019s dad said his son is \u201cpretty alright,\u201d adding the boy suffered a fractured rib and stitches on his chin and had to have two back teeth pulled.<\/p>\n<p>The mom said she was napping when her young son snuck out the window and fell \u2014 and the next time she saw the boy, he was in the arms of a cop.<\/p>\n<p>Police responded to a 911 call at the Morrisania building around 10:55 a.m. and found the injured child on the sidewalk \u2014 with a neighbor banging on the door to notify the family of the tragedy, sources said.<\/p>\n<p>Javonte\u2019s father, Javon Francis, said the boy is autistic and a bit of an escape artist who has a knack for opening doors and windows \u2014 and said those at their apartment are equipped with safety gates.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s like an invitation for him,\u201d Francis said of the set-up, which the parents said is still not secure.<\/p>\n<p><img style=\"aspect-ratio:1.49926794;display:block\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" data-modal-image=\"39008776\" width=\"885\" height=\"590\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/30pm-word-climbed-third-floor-125119481.jpg\" alt=\"Street view of a large brick apartment building with a liquor store on the ground floor, on 486 East 167th Street in the Bronx, New York.\" class=\"wp-image-39008776\"  \/>The child\u2019s family said he underwent surgery but is expected to survive after his fall..
