STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. (PIX11) \u2014 Tenants on Staten Island will be able to share the struggles they face with housing as officials with Mayor Mamdani\u2019s administration are hitting a fifth stop on their \u201crental ripoff\u201d tour.<\/p>\n
The rental ripoff hearings, established by Mamdani, allows tenants to air their housing grievances, from poor conditions and repair delays to unfair business practices and non-rent fees.<\/p>\n
Discover more local reporting on our homepage <\/a><\/p>\n The mayor\u2019s office says the community input will directly inform changes to strengthen city policies to protect tenants.<\/p>\n \u201cYour stories and your feedback is going to be compiled into a policy report we plan to release in early July. This report is going to give us a roadmap for ways we want to improve both transparency around what your leases are for, improve tenants rights as consumers and make it easier for tenants to report violations and get repairs made in their buildings,\u201d said Cea Weaver, Director of the New York City Mayor\u2019s Office to Protect Tenants.<\/p>\n Several housing and tenant groups will hold a rally at P.S. 78 before the hearings on Tuesday night. The rally is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.<\/p>\n There are two time slots scheduled for the rental ripoff hearings: 5:30 and 7 p.m.<\/p>\n Space is limited.
