Manhattan<\/a> detectives are investigating the death of a man who was found unconscious inside a NYCHA building stairwell early on Monday morning.<\/p>\n

According to police sources, the man of unknown age was discovered just after 6 a.m. on April 6 inside the Wald Houses complex at 920 East 6th St. in the East Village.<\/p>\n

Officers from the 9th Precinct<\/a> and NYPD Public Service Area 4 located the man at the bottom of the building\u2019s stairwell. He was unconscious and unresponsive and had bruises all over his body.\u00a0<\/p>\n

EMS rushed him to Bellevue Hospital, where sources say he regained consciousness before going into cardiac arrest, from which he would not recover. Police said the man\u2019s identity is pending.<\/p>\n

While yet to be deemed a homicide, the death is being considered suspicious, according to sources familiar with the investigation.\n<\/p>\n

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will determine the cause of death.\n<\/p>\n

The investigation is ongoing, police said.\n<\/p>\n
