{"id":188544,"date":"2026-04-07T17:35:10","date_gmt":"2026-04-07T17:35:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/188544\/"},"modified":"2026-04-07T17:35:10","modified_gmt":"2026-04-07T17:35:10","slug":"anti-israel-groups-plan-protest-in-new-york-city-against-israels-death-penalty-law-jns-org","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/188544\/","title":{"rendered":"Anti-Israel groups plan protest in New York City against Israel&#8217;s death penalty law &#8211; JNS.org"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>                            (<br \/>\n                                Apr. 7, 2026<br \/>\n                                 \/ JNS<br \/>\n                            )<\/p>\n<p>Anti-Israel activist groups have planned a rally on Tuesday in New York City to protest newly enacted Israeli legislation expanding the use of the death penalty for convicted terrorists.<\/p>\n<p>The protest, billed as \u201cProtest Against Prisoner Executions: Stop Genocide Behind Bars,\u201d is scheduled for 2 p.m. at 800 Second Ave., the site of Israel\u2019s permanent mission to the United Nations.<\/p>\n<p>Organizers include CUNY for Palestine, Al-Awda: The Palestine Right to Return Coalition, Writers Against the War on Gaza, the Columbia Palestine Solidarity Coalition and a chapter of Students for Justice in Palestine at City College of New York.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFlood the streets for Palestinian prisoners,\u201d the groups <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/DWpfPBMEfDC\/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link&amp;igsh=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">wrote<\/a> in a joint call to action. In a statement, organizers described the legislation as an \u201cescalation\u201d and alleged mistreatment of Palestinian detainees in Israeli custody.<\/p>\n<p>Israel\u2019s Knesset <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.jns.org\/news\/israel-news\/knesset-passes-death-penalty-law\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">approved<\/a> the measure on March 30 in a 62\u201348 vote. The law allows courts to impose the death penalty on those convicted of carrying out deadly attacks deemed acts of terrorism, with military courts in the West Bank empowered to issue such sentences.<\/p>\n<p>The legislation marks a significant shift in Israeli penal policy.
