The Onondaga County Legislature on Tuesday passed legislation placing a county sales tax cap on gas at $4. The resolution limits sales tax collections fo the first $4 of the per-gallon price of gasoline and diesel fuel amid a spike in prices due to the war in Iran.<\/p>\n

2.\u00a0New York lawmakers pass state budget extender through April 14<\/a><\/p>\n

The New York state Legislature on Tuesday passed a second state budget extension \u2014 now a week past the budget’s deadline\u00a0\u2014 and was promptly signed into law by Gov. Kathy Hochul. The extender runs through April 14 and ensures the state can cover essential expenses and make payroll deadlines. The budget was due April 1.<\/p>\n

3.\u00a0Tonko calls for impeachment after Trump’s statement on Iran<\/a><\/p>\n

Saying that President Donald Trump “is publicly threatening to commit genocide,” Rep. Paul Tonko called Tuesday for the House of Representatives to reconvene and open impeachment proceedings against the president.<\/p>\n

4.\u00a0Man sentenced for setting fire that killed Binghamton firefighter<\/a><\/p>\n

Patrick Shea, who was convicted of first-degree manslaughter and fourth-degree arson in the death of\u00a0John “JR” Gaudet, received up to seven years in prison and five years of post-release supervision for his role in the Feb. 12, 2025, fire on Main Street in Binghamton, Broome County District Attorney F.
