YONKERS, New York (WABC) — Police are investigating after a portable toilet exploded in a park in Yonkers Monday night.<\/p>\n
The destruction, which occurred around 8:20 p.m. in Bregano Park, prompted a significant response, complete with agents in protective suits collecting evidence. The entire perimeter of the park has been cordoned off. The focus of attention is a blue porta potty that has now been blasted to pieces.<\/p>\n
They believe whoever did it used fireworks.<\/p>\n
“Last night, it sounded like a bomb,” said resident Maria Sigismondo. “I was sitting in the living room and I went, ‘oh my god.’ The whole floor shook. And then my neighbors, you know, and everybody were just talking about it.<\/p>\n
Residents in the area say there have been four or five similar explosions over the last few weeks, usually around the same time after nightfall.<\/p>\n
“At first, we thought it was like fireworks. Then it got louder and bigger, but last night was really big,” said resident Kenny Reyes. “And now this.”<\/p>\n
Yonkers Police contacted the county bomb squad which responded along with the FBI and ATF.<\/p>\n
“I am pretty concerned, especially when you see the FBI, but hopefully they get to the bottom of it. You know, you worry about it,” Sigismondo said. “The world today is a little strange.”<\/p>\n
