WASHINGTON (TNND) \u2014 Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detained an illegal immigrant who was released back into the community after he kidnapped a 4-year-old girl from a laundromat in New York, according to the Department of Homeland Security<\/a> (DHS). <\/p>\n

DHS on Tuesday identified him as 38-year-old Carlos Corte-Corte, of Ecuador.<\/p>\n

“This three-time deported criminal illegal alien, Carlos Corte-Corte, kidnapped an innocent four-year-old girl from a laundromat on Long Island,” Acting Assistant Secretary Lauren Bis said in a statement<\/a>.”New York sanctuary politicians chose to release this kidnapper from jail to prey on more innocent children rather than cooperate with ICE law enforcement,” Bis added. “Sanctuary politicians must stop putting politics above public safety. This type of insanity leads to more crimes and more innocent victims. Thanks to our ICE law enforcement, this sicko is off our streets.”<\/p>\n

Suffolk County Police<\/a> said officers initially arrested Corte-Corte on March 28. The department said he led the girl out the back exit of Laundry Kingdom at 138 East Main St. in Patchogue while she was there with her mother and another child. <\/p>\n

“Her mother reported her missing, and patrol officers responded to the scene, where they reviewed surveillance video and began canvassing the area,” police said in a release<\/a>. “During the search, the mother located her daughter in the children\u2019s play area of the Patchogue-Medford Library, located at 54-60 East Main St. A patrol officer then located Corte near the laundromat and took him into custody.”\"Carlos<\/p>\n

Police said Corte-Corte was charged with charged with second-degree kidnapping, endangering the welfare of a child, as well as having an outstanding warrant, per police. <\/p>\n

After his arrest, DHS said, “sanctuary politicians” released Corte-Corte from jail back into the community. DHS said ICE later re-arrested him on March 31 and placed him in removal proceedings.<\/p>\n

The agency said Corte-Corte illegally entered the U.S. on at least three occasions in 2020 and was removed every time. <\/p>\n

“He chose to commit a felony and illegally re-entered the U.S. a fourth time at an unknown place and time before attempting to kidnap the child,” DHS said.<\/p>\n

The agency said the arrests come after ICE Director Todd Lyons sent New York Attorney General Leticia James a letter urging her to not release more than 7,000 criminal illegal immigrants<\/a> in New York state and local custody, including murderers, sexual predators, and others convicted of or charged with weapons offenses. <\/p>\n

“Her office did not respond,” DHS said.<\/p>\n

The agency said as of December 1, “New York\u2019s failure to honor ICE detainers” resulted in the release of 6,947 criminal illegal immigrants since January 20. <\/p>\n

“The crimes of these aliens include 29 homicides, 2,509 assaults, 199 burglaries, 305 robberies, 392 dangerous drugs offenses, 300 weapons offenses, and 207 sexual predatory offenses,” DHS said. “As of December 1, 7,113 aliens in the custody of a New York jurisdiction have an active detainer.
