On Tuesday evening, the New York Yankees<\/a> played the Athletics (at home) in the Bronx.<\/p>\n

The Yankees continued their hot start to the season, winning by a score of 5-3.<\/p>\n

Before their win over the Athletics, Aaron Boone announced<\/a> the latest update on star pitcher Gerrit Cole.<\/p>\n

Gary Phillips of NY Daily News Sports wrote:<\/a> \u201cAaron Boone said Gerrit Cole threw yesterday. If all continues to go well, he\u2019s scheduled to face batters again on Sunday.\u201d<\/p>\n

He went 8-5 with a 3.41 ERA in 17 games.<\/p>\n

The six-time MLB<\/a> All-Star missed the entire 2025 season due to injury.<\/p>\n

ESPN had written on March 10, 2025:<\/a> \u201cNew York Yankees ace Gerrit Cole will undergo Tommy John surgery tomorrow to repair a torn right ulnar collateral ligament and miss the 2025 season, the team announced on Monday.\u201d<\/p>\n

Cole\u2019s Incredible MLB Career<\/p>\n

Cole was the first pick in the 2011 MLB Draft by the Pittsburgh Pirates<\/a>.<\/p>\n

He lived up to the hype, making the All-Star Game in his third season (at just 24).<\/p>\n

After signing with New York before the 2020 season, Cole went on to win the Cy Young Award (in 2023).<\/p>\n

Over 317 career games, he has gone 153-80 with a 3.18 ERA.<\/p>\n
